The Mayor will have all of the answers, as to why this "out of the ballpark/win-win" fell short.
How much CoB $$ is at risk? And why does KBTX know more than city officials?

Something about balls and parks comes to mind....

As I said when this got announced - When all is said and done around here in the Microplex, a whole lot more will be said than actually done. Look at the attendance at Cinemark, Premiere, and Star Cinema. We go to the movies pretty regularly, and there isn't a tremendous amount of demand....

Other examples -
Bio-corridor
RELLIS Datacenter

Yeah, I said this when they started building. Not enough business for another theater. You forgot the Queen. I've never been to that one.

Maybe after Elon moves in.
I hope I did not offend anybody with this post. If I did, please come see me at my address in my profile so we can talk.

I'd like to put in a small sporting goods store next door. You know kids are always gonna forget their socks, mouth guard, pads etc and need them for the tournament at legends.

I'd also say between Dave and Buster's and the two pickleball businesses coming in, the market is much tighter than it was when the project started several years ago. The math may longer be mathing.

By some estimates, the sun will last another 65 million years. They're gonna have to work in the dark.

Doesn't Schulman manage the queen and palace theater for the city? Why is the city still involved with him in any capacity?

From what I understand, coming from subs I know who worked on it prior to the halt in construction, is that there is a lot of money owed to vendors on the project in addition to a lot of money in the form of liquidated damages related to the construction contract that will have to be settled up before that thing resumes construction. Someone is going to have to spend a lot of money on it, and it makes me wonder if a change of use is in the cards for that property.

More today from KBTX (look at them doing some actual reporting)

Schulman's Movie Bowl Grille owes City of Bryan $2 million by July 17

You basically have a shell of a large building at this point.

My prediction is that is that SMBG is dead and that Bryan moves in the direction of making it an extension of Legends. City leaders have said many times they wish that Legends was larger due to the success that they have had there and the demand.

Man, that ball was knocked out of the park, win - win! How could it have failed so miserably.....

Several million worth of miserably.

The taxpayers will be on the hook to mop up this mess.

See??? Huge boat anchor (store) eyesores aren't just for College Station.

Maybe Bryan can expand it and make it a convention center complex

I wonder how many contractors are unpaid at this point in time on that project and what their recourse is? I guess that also applies to the city of Bryan and their $2 million loan.

Mechanic's leans are their main recourse when it comes to any claims on the property itself. The GC is going to have the biggest claim as their contracts with subs and vendors have to be covered. I'm sure the construction loan is in default. This thing is a mess.

I used to think people who managed, owned or created projects like this were smart. I have no idea how someone managed to convince someone to give them money and it ends up like this.

There should be some accounting for the 2024 loan by the CC members that are still in their positions. I'm not saying it was obviously bad at that time - but there needs to be some navel gazing.

Isn't the farmers market at Midtown Park now? Would a farmers market/food hall concept work here?

Once all the dust settles I think we will find out the folks who managed, owned or created this project will have lined their pockets with tax payers money.
Once again our well intentioned Knuckleheads running our fine cities have been duped.

Instead we got this monstrosity, a sports and events center that the tax payer can't use, and a new money pit of a golf course that has lost millions since it was "donated"

Another thing, why doesnt anyone go to prison for things like this? I don't mean a lacky or a token manager/mid level desk rat, the people at the top who tout this crap.

Of course there has to be proof, which is sometimes a long shot, but what thing gives them immunity?
Hornbeck

Because "it's a big club, and you ain't in it." As George Carlin said.

The "cool kid crowd" in Bryan, who's dads all owned local businesses tend to stick together even when they are middle aged….

The Mayor Pro Tem spoke to WTAW about the SMBG building during an interview today.

In short, he said the space is much more complete than it looks and that the space will move forward as an entertainment venue with or without the Schulman family involvement.
