Nice haze today in Westchase

Had a nice campfire smell in the car as I drove down Katy Freeway this morning.

Who has marshmallows?

I work at the Guthrie Center and live in Spring Shadows - the wind is blowing the smoke this direction today. Up until now we've been pretty clear skies.

Apparently there is a town hall about it tonight at the VFW hall in the area.

I mean, it's not unusual to see small burn piles going on out behind the Pine Curtain. But in an urban residential neighborhood where the smoke is sitting over the neighborhood, it's pretty eye-catching. Understandable for neighbors to have questions.

You're not wrong I'm just being snarky. I spent all week hearing my coworkers act like the sky is falling. Their response to what's happening isn't measured. They don't even live here they drive in from Tomball. Living earth catches on fire at least once a year.

Except I imagine they were planning on selling it.

If they were just trucking it off to dispose of why mulch it?

They would love driving through parts of South Louisiana when the sugar cane fields are being burned (which I guess would be sometime next month if they want to plan a trip). Wood smells much better.

- Two Hispanic dudes get busted for an extremely obvious attempt to shoplift a cart full of meat and beer

Haven't heard of it until now. We'll definitely have to check this out.

We did check out both the sushi and speakeasy bar at Hando on NYE. Highly recommend both.

It's a pretty nice place with some pretty good cocktails.

We've met the owner a couple of times and she's really nice.

At times the clientele is very overwhelmingly a demographic that typically doesn't tip.

Some kind of ground breaking going on at the big vacant lot at Gessner and Clay adjacent to the Meritage subdivision.

Bunch of suits with shovels standing around shaking hands.

Anyone know what that's all about? I know rumors of HEB possibly moving from the Kempwood location were swirling at one point.

What's going in at the old Bed, Bath, and Beyond on the south feeder between Gessner and the Beltway?

Pure speculation, but it is using the same shade of blue on exterior as the adjacent goodwill…

Saw that sign the other day and was really confused.

In other branch news, a bbq/birria taco pop-up is going down at Feges tonight from 5-7pm. The guy has been around in the past under the name JQ, but he kinda stepped aside for a while. This is his first night back doing a service in a few years. Feges is hosting him and setting up the restaurant for drinks and seating.

We went out a few weeks ago for a date night to Bar Bludorn for dinner (fantastic!) and then hit The Library and then Aye Candy. I highly recommend Bar Bludorn..it is on the south side of I10 at Gaylord.

Enjoyed The Library, the bartenders or sommeliers were really nice and helpful. I ended up buying a bottle to go. We didn't eat, but the flatbread pizzas looked awesome. Will definitely be going back.

I didn't think much of the drinks at Aye Candy. The drinks at Bludorn were much better. The waitress that took care of us was very nice and the DJ was actually playing good music (not too loud...even played a Queen song). I am glad we tried it, but I don't think we will ever go back. Was interesting people watching.

Drove down Gessner yesterday and saw "Small Sliders". Looks like it is about to open. Has anyone been to any of their other locations?
