I know some on here have vacation rentals in Galveston. Are there any owners who rent directly and not through VRBO or Air BnB or will those sites be the best option for a summer weekend rental?

I rent directly, but I'm at Crystal Beach. Have rented to several on here with no problems - saves big money for everyone. It's a 3BR/2BA house, basically 3rd row with a Gulf view.

Any chance you can post a link to someplace we can see pics of your place? Vrbo. Airbnb etc. Wife was just asking me yesterday about getting a beach house or lake house for a weekend.
You got it. I do business on airbnb, but I direct book for responsible adults who like to save $$. The first weekend of spring break is still open.

With school starting so early these days, we are officially out of peak season after this weekend. From a weather standpoint, this doesn't make sense, but rates drop by a third or so, and you can get a full week through the end of October for $1500, and less after that. Also, the home is bigger than small groups need, but I will go even lower for couples and small families who are "lower impact." Bolivar and Crystal Beach are really nice in the late summer and early fall.

Got some cheap availability starting Sunday, through the 29th. Everybody and their uncle wants Labor Day, but the weekend before is still wide open.

We just bought one in Pirates Beach and put it on Airbnb. Sleeps 6 comfortably, but there is a sofa bed and downstairs bunk bed with window A/C if there are additional people.

I encourage you to reach out to Brad Spurgeon in Texas City.
Our FEMA flood insurance for our home in Pirates Beach on San Domingo was included in the escalation process back in 2016 or so. It eventually reached around $8,000 a year and was set to go even higher.
Brad was able to write a policy based on historical flood maps that lowered our costs to around $1,200 a year. He understands coastal policies better than most, including many agencies in Galveston.
We sold our home shortly after and transferred the policy to the new homeowners.
