I know some on here have vacation rentals in Galveston. Are there any owners who rent directly and not through VRBO or Air BnB or will those sites be the best option for a summer weekend rental?

With school starting so early these days, we are officially out of peak season after this weekend. From a weather standpoint, this doesn't make sense, but rates drop by a third or so, and you can get a full week through the end of October for $1500, and less after that. Also, the home is bigger than small groups need, but I will go even lower for couples and small families who are "lower impact." Bolivar and Crystal Beach are really nice in the late summer and early fall.

I'm getting quotes now, but we may self-insure.

Haha. Didn't know this had been bumped "recently." The key to the coastal property flood policy is finding a house that is in the 100 year, and not the floodway. Realtors can get a little "slippery" on this topic, because they don't want you to see the actual rates (kind of like how they hide the fact that the current resident of a home is 90 and hasn't had a tax increase for 25 years, and those won't be YOUR taxes)...but if you press them to find properties in the 100 year, you can get a great flood insurance deal.

We just bought one in Pirates Beach and put it on Airbnb. Sleeps 6 comfortably, but there is a sofa bed and downstairs bunk bed with window A/C if there are additional people.

My email is in my profile if anyone is interested in renting it.

What do you mean by floodway? I've looked down the beach and don't see anything in the floodway. Or do you mean Zone VE?
