I think Roegel's is a great quality BBQ place without the wait. The only pain in the ass is having to go down Voss Rd to go get it.

Damn straight on Roegel's.

I live in the Heights but I'll gladly drive to Roegel's to not have to wait in a long line and have a seat.

Their brisket is as good as anyone's in town.

The hack is to get the Texas Two Step as you get a link of sausage for $2 or whatever it is. I take the sausage off the sammich and eat it as a side.

It also works at other places as I've done it at Truth as well.

I'd wait for Gatlin's over walking right into Gabby's.
Never waited more than 15 minutes at Gatlin's.

Obligatory "my backyard has the best BBQ in Houston" ha.

For sure, however, Gatlins has awful sausage and the complaints about inconsistency and wait times are warranted.

Since the last time I went to gatlins and it was dogsh*t … I don't frequent either one, that was just my last stop there. I just know a Goode jalapeño sausage sandwich on jap/chee bread was better than the last visit to gatlins

Speaking of Gatlin's if you go two blocks east on Judiway there is a newish French restaurant BeauSoleil.

Made for an excellent date night and the girlfriend and I are looking forward to going back and trying more of their menu. Really good deals on their Happy Hour menu.

Holy Sheet what a blast down memory lane! I had many a married friend wander over to Wishes after Happy Hour with a co-worker in tow. Never went myself.

Wishes…wow that is an extreme blast from the past. I remember my mom telling me it was a swingers bar when I was YOUNG. She then had to explain to me what that was. We would grocery shop over there and eat at Fajita Willie's or the Chinese buffet.

I really wanted Maggie Ritas to make it. Carlos Mencia was a genius trailblazing pioneer in the comedian/restaurant game.

I remember it being more interior Mexican focussed than the typical Tex-Mex spots around town.

More similar to Hugo's (but not as nice) than the rest of your list.

Yes, it was Ninfas for a while. Its been Picos for a pretty long time, but never been there, don't know any one that ever said they went there either. Obviously doing something right since they've been there so long
