This is the time of the year when COH starts to hemorrhage employees who have jobs that spend a lot of time outside. COH has also deferred so much maintenance on sideloaders that the only option is total replacement for dozens of them.

I think the key piece of what Mas89 said above is they PAY a contractor. Eventually, the solution COH will come up with is a trash fee people will pay monthly.

Did they ever fix the bike lane street sweeper?

They are a few weeks behind on heavy/tree waste pickup at our place in the 008. Per the website:
Quote:

Week of July 21through July 26, 2025
  • Garbage collection is on schedule.
  • Recycling is approximately 3 - 5 days behind schedule.
  • Heavy Trash collection is two weeks behind schedule. Please continue to set out your heavy trash(bulk waste) on your regular schedule to avoid missed pick-ups.
  • Yard waste services are delayed.
To find specific heavy trash collection dates, click the magnifying glass icon in the double arrows at the top right for the Heavy Trash Progress Dashboard. See the map below.

Yard Waste services have been delayed in our area since end of last year. They might need to update their message to 'Yard Waste Services Cancelled'. Except they did actually randomly pick up some bags of leaves I had about 3 weeks ago.

And to their credit, I did have a neighbor with a huge pile in the curb back earlier in the year and I sent message to Public Works app complaining and they picked it up pretty soon afterwards. Maybe that's what it takes, lots of complaining.

Keeping on a schedule definitely seems to be an insurmountable challenge

It was probably not stolen. The sideloader operator likely dropped it into the truck.

That's one way to lighten the workload.

But seriously, third world quickly destroying Houston.

what do you mean 'third world' is destroying Houston? We've had serious mismanagement and then inflation in a time when city revenues aren't increasing.

We ARE in the city of Houston. Glad to pay quarterly to not have COH excuses like our estimated water and sewer bills for Years. Thank God they also have contractors running the water and sewer plants.

COH excuses like deferred maintenance on side loaders is actually a problem of COH maintenance facility.
Ass clowns. Full stop- just hire contractors and get rid of the bums.

I'll bet contractors would buy all those side loaders for ten percent of cost and have them operating in 2 weeks but the COH answer is we Must have All new equipment to proceed!!!

I am aware Kingwood is within COH. It's a really interesting scenario because COH was grossly unprepared to provide services when Kingwood was annexed.

We live in Kingwood which is in the city of Houston after being annexed 20 plus years ago.

We pay a contractor, Best Trash, quarterly for service. They come on time twice a week, rain or shine, hot or cold, with men running along with the trucks. I can't imagine having better service.

Contractors are the answer. The liberal operated cities can not run anything and not F it up. If a contractor is not getting the job done, you fire them and hire another- just like we do in the private sector. The answer is to get rid of All the city employees not getting the job done and hire more contractors.

I'll gladly pay the contractor for garbage service even if I do live in the city limits.

We moved out to SETX and I'm honestly blown away they are so good at trash. They have a weekly crane truck that picks up ANYTHING. Fridge, entire tree, construction demo etc. It's wonderful. Plus if I need to expedite things, I have free drop off at the dump. I honestly didn't know trash service could be this wonderful. My last trash service wouldn't pick up yard debris unless it was nearly tied in to small bundles. No one has time that that.

Every time I go to the city dump, I get turned away because their trailers are full and they don't have anyone coming to pick them up. I need to go as soon as they open and hope there isn't a giant line.

I went to the one off north main a couple weeks ago and it was surprisingly painless. It was a Friday afternoon, about two cars in line but less than 5 minute wait.

The Southwest one is close to me, and I have been turned away three times now. If I get there earlier, I am hoping it won't be a problem. I am not sure how they get away with it, but there are usually obvious contractors with a trailer full of material that they gutted from a house. I thought they weren't allowed to use the dump for that.

It's insurmountable because of the people that run it, not because it's actually insurmountable.

I get notices periodically looking for volunteers to clean the bike lanes - that damn bike-lane-sweeper Mc-sweep-face broke a long time ago.

Are you surprised by this., cities/counties will hire the most incompetent morons to city/county positions.
Dead people are notoriously bad at returning calls.

No, he worked for Houston Public Works. I've known the guy a very long time, and I just don't see how he landed the job.

Speaking of deferred maintenance, the Chron reported today that the public works director said it will take more than $500 million for repairs to the the public works building and HPD headquarters.

Quote:

"Rehabilitating two city facilities that were built in the 1960sat the cost of nearly 600 million dollarswould likely not be a 'wise investment' for taxpayers for the condition that they are in," Macchi said in a statement to Chron. "We're working with Mayor Whitmire to find options that work for the city, our employees, and taxpayers … All options are on the table."

You got a long way to go. I was at 3 plus months waiting on a trash can calling 311 every other week before I solved the problem myself.

Everyone should just start dumping their trash at the home if whoever is in charge of the garbage. That will get the message across.
