Someone stole my black trash can. Nowhere to be found.

Ordered another via 311. Said it would take a week to get.

That was 6 weeks ago.

Called again. Said there is a "significant delay in trash cans." I'm on the list but there are folks that have been waiting "significantly longer" than I have.

Awesome.

Now it makes sense why someone stole a trash can.

They are a few weeks behind on heavy/tree waste pickup at our place in the 008. Per the website:
Quote:

Week of July 21through July 26, 2025
  • Garbage collection is on schedule.
  • Recycling is approximately 3 - 5 days behind schedule.
  • Heavy Trash collection is two weeks behind schedule. Please continue to set out your heavy trash(bulk waste) on your regular schedule to avoid missed pick-ups.
  • Yard waste services are delayed.
To find specific heavy trash collection dates, click the magnifying glass icon in the double arrows at the top right for the Heavy Trash Progress Dashboard. See the map below.

It was probably not stolen. The sideloader operator likely dropped it into the truck.

Where are you located? There is, what appears to be, an abandoned trash can across the street from me that I'll sell for $50 It floated my way during a recent storm and the owner has yet to claim it.

Not just waste services.....but that is noticeably one of the worst.

TC Jester northbound, just north of 610, buckled pretty badly a few weeks ago. So bad you had to slow down to a couple of miles an hour to avoid damaging your car. About a week went by and no repairs so people raised hell. City said it was on the list but would take a few weeks. That didn't fly so they finally sent someone to do a temporary repair.

Fast forward to July 8 and they start their permanent fix. One lane is finally done, but going on 2 weeks now and the other lane is still just a giant hole they cut in the road.....

To be fair, If i was the trashman I'd see that happen and say "That suuuucks" and keep driving.

Just completed my first year of homeownership in 77043 and wow is the trash service awful. Thinking about running for the HOA Board just to attempt to get everybody on board with a Private Trash Service. Not including the Derecho or Beryl clean-up, our recycling is at less than a 50% pickup rate on the day it's supposed to. Generally, it's at least a week wait. The Trash service is hitting at about a 90% clip and generally is taken the next day.

no trash can for the OP
recycling schedule is 'whenever'
potholes everywhere
street signs bent
neighborhoods with no underground drainage
but we have money to tear up Pierce Elevated and rebuild it on the other side of downtown?

I know where a good used one and brand new one are. If you want to help me get my used one back from the dudes building the house two doors down from me, I will show you where they hid the brand new one

Might be a stretch, but this seems like it could have potential for a story thread of one-upsmanship between resident and builder.

I have two big green trash cans I will sell that are brand new. They're probably the same shape and manufacturer as coh cans, but for some reason they may refuse to pick them up

At this point I'm curious as to how long it will take. I'm afraid if I snag one from somewhere else the eventual delivery driver may get confused, drop it randomly somewhere else and it will ruin the experiment.

That being said, it's amazing how many trash bags can fit in down the street drain.

In the entire Colony Ridge subdivision near Plum Grove in Liberty County, the developers talked the county engineer, commissioners, and county judge into letting them use a fiber product in the road concrete instead of steel rebar. On hundreds of miles of roads. What could possibly go wrong?

OP - I requested a new trash can to replace a cracked one in 77043 on April 18th and received it June 24th. I called 311 multiple times and got it "elevated" like you. I even spoke to some lady who was apparently with the sanitation department early in June who said I'd have one by the end of that day (I did not).

I happened to be home one day when my recycling pick up was happening, so I flagged down the driver and told her I'd been waiting blah blah, if there's anything she could do, blah blah. She took my address and told me she'd make a call, and a trash can showed up the next week.

I have no idea if that actually helped- but if anyone is able to be home during pick up it's worth a shot to ask a driver. If those two events were related, the drivers seem to know who to communicate with to actually get you to the top of a list.

I dealt with COH trash for 15 years and it definitely got worse over time. Moved to neighborhood with private trash paid via the HOA 4 years ago and it's very much worth it. I joked with the relator that she missed a key selling point on the house. If possible, you should try moving that direction.

We live in Kingwood which is in the city of Houston after being annexed 20 plus years ago.

We pay a contractor, Best Trash, quarterly for service. They come on time twice a week, rain or shine, hot or cold, with men running along with the trucks. I can't imagine having better service.

Contractors are the answer. The liberal operated cities can not run anything and not F it up. If a contractor is not getting the job done, you fire them and hire another- just like we do in the private sector. The answer is to get rid of All the city employees not getting the job done and hire more contractors.

I'll gladly pay the contractor for garbage service even if I do live in the city limits.
