Taking my family to watch the Astros on Wednesday. Game time is listed at 7:10.

What time would batting practice be? My 11 year old wants to try and catch a ball.

Also, any other tips or advice welcome. It'll be my 6 (wife & I with 14g, 11b, 7b, & 5g). Sitting in the Honda Club. Driving in from Louisiana so trying to time out the day.

You probably won't be able to see the Astros take BP. They usually do it before doors open. If you get there when the gates open, you may be able to watch the visitors.

I don't think you can get in when the Astros take BP. At least that's been my experience.

Dang. I'll shoot to get there around 5:30 and hope it's worth our while.

And I mean that literally. The extra concessions for my 5 year old daughter will be substantial. I'm not sure how a tiny human can eat so much when it's at a ballpark. Every concession stand she's ever seen is tied for her favorite restaurant.

Is it their first time at the stadium? Stop by Guest Services on the third base side and they will make them certificates.

I am pretty sure you have to pay to watch BP now. Like they offer some tour packages that includes watching BP. It's an absolute travesty.

First time for 3 of the 4 kids. My older son attended a game earlier this season with his baseball team. Thanks for that tip!

absolutely do this. Hell do it for your older one too. All he will really remember is that he got a cool memento at the ballpark with dad.

Bring a scorebook and teach the kids how to keep score. Easiest way to (1) keep them engaged and (2) teach them a complicated game. They can trade off every inning.

Yep, agree. The staff won't know any different, and it'll still be his first game with the family.

I realize that this is irrelevant to your thread, but if you want a great baseball experience that's fun and super budget friendly, go see a Rice game and sit in the outfield. We roll up with a wagon that has a cooler of beers and stuff to cook up on the grills. Both of my kids had no problem getting a ball. I realize it's not the MLB experience but kids and parents all had a blast.

As mentioned above, you can't see the Astros BP with a normal ticket, you'll need to purchase an afternoon tour.

The doors open 2 hours prior to first pitch and both times I got there right when they open and caught the visitors (rapist Dallas Rangers) BP. I took one of my daughters both times and was able to get balls for them; bring a glove to the Crawford Boxes and keep your eyes open lol. You are also close enough to players warming up so you can ask them (or get your kids to).

Good luck & have fun.

You can bring a clear bag of food. My son of course wants a hot dog & ice cream from the park. But we usually take in peanuts or other snacks to keep him satisfied most the game.

I've seen people eating spaghetti out of a gallon size bag.

He is awesome. Sits on the 3B line. He goes to just about every home game and a lot of away games.

He can fit a pizza into a gallon bag.

I live in south Louisiana. I'll do anything to get my kids not cheering for LSU baseball (or LSU anything)

So far so good.

That would be about 100 dollars if sold at the ballpark.
