I don't care which patch of grass it is or how insignificant. The family DONATED the land under condition it would be used as a park, and only a park. The county accepted the terms and sure as **** accepted the gift. End of story.

Let that be a lesson to anyone trusting government with gifted resources.

Hermann Park Conservancy is spending $200m to update and improve the park and nothing has been planned for that area. They are using other park land to build parking garages without any push back.

The land isn't used. There's no plan to use it. The point was to benefit Houstonians. That isn't happening. But don't let that stop a good rant.

I know this comes as a shock - but not every square foot of land has to be "used" in whatever form you think.

But hey, let's concrete more of the little bit of greenspace left. I'm sure that is super duper beneficial.

My wife works for Harris Health at Ben Taub. She said that the descendants are fine with the hospital taking over that patch of grass. The hand wringing on this is stupid.

Ben Taub & Houston would benefit from a much needed expansion.

As Houston continues to grow and blossom as a Spring Break destination, expanding our gun shot clinic does make sense to me.

Id think a hospital expansion in one of the fastest growing metros in the nation falls under the category of beneficial.

The portion of the park in question is called the Warneke track. The Warneke family donated it to the City of Houston more than 100 years ago, and it was intended for park use only.

Real estate experts have told ABC13 that paying the Warneke heirs to use the land for a hospital could top $100 million.

Several heirs have also spoken out against the condemnation of the land.

What is that, like 50 insured patient hospital visits?

Why we cant have nice things.

Do you even know which patch of grass is being discussed?

Most people have never seen or used the section that's proposed for the Ben Taub expansion. And the expansion is necessary.

It's been discussed to death for months.

It always starts with a just a patch of grass, then the commissioners take more and more. Before long it's more than just a patch of grass.

Come up with a better use and propose it instead of *****ing about things you don't understand.

That's not our decision. It's the family's. Unlike the Astrodome.

Voted twice to destroy it, and got ignored both times.
94chem,
That, sir, was the greatest post in the history of TexAgs. I salute you. -- Dough
