Anyone replaced their a/c compressor on a 100 series. I got the flashing a/c light last year and replaced the suspect relay which mostly alleviated the problem but it is back now and looks like it might be time to do the compressors. I haven't priced what the local indy shop will charge but my guess is it will be much higher than what I can buy the parts and gauges for and learn a new skill.

I had my AC compressor replaced about 5 years ago on my 100 by an Indy mechanic in Dallas. I don't remember the cost but still have the paperwork. Unfortunately (for you, not me!) I'm out of town on spring break vacation and won't be able to get to those receipts until next week. Ping me to remind me if you still need if I forget to look for them when I return.

I am in Tyler, probably not worth the time to drive it down for this repair BUT I am grateful for the info on a good shop that isn't three states away.

BTW, I have two brand new, never been installed, leather front passenger seat covers from Lseat.com that I need to sell, if anyone is interested. They are the tan color and fit a 2000 LX470, not sure what other years they fit.

A buddy and I took our 200s to Big Bend NP last week with our wives for some camping. This was our third trip to the park, but the other couple's first trip. On our past trips, we camped at Stillwell Ranch just outside the park for the fire rings and shower, then traveled into the park each day for day hikes and some backpacking. This was my first time really exploring all the primitive roads through the park. It was such a cool way to experience the park and I would highly recommend it to yall. The only remotely difficult trail is Black Gap, and even that is not hard. The primitive roads and their accompanying campsites get you away from the normal crowds that fill the basin area and give you access to desert solitude and cool stuff like Mariscal Mine and Mariscal Canyon. We stayed at Ernst Tinaja, Talley 4, Terlingua Abajo 1, and Rice Tank campsites. We ran all of River Rd, some of Old Maverick, Glenn Springs, Old Ore, and Black Gap. We split each day between traveling through the desert and doing some day hiking and exploring. We were there during one of the busiest times of the year but really didn't deal with crowds until we tried to drive up into the basin one day. Here are some iphone pics, will post better pics tomorrow.

We ate and drank well. As you can see in the dashboard pic above, it was hot for early March. We were not expecting that. The trucks read 102* when we finished our hike at Mariscal Canyon one day. Cold AC, ventilated seats and COOLBOX for the win.

Skottle and RTT were borrowed for the trip. I would do the next trip without both of them. A trusty coleman stove with a couple pans is more my style. And I will have a drawer setup and sleep inside the vehicle next time.

Looks like y'all had a great time. The roads out there are easy, but pin stripes can hold you back. Did you get any pin stripes?

What did you like/dislike about the RTT? Last time I back country camped at BBNP, I borrowed my dad's RTT on an M100 trailer. Being able to lay on a foam mattress while star gazing was amazing. I've been torn about getting one myself.

Yeah I came home with some pinstripes. But the good thing about silver trucks is they hide dirt and scratches well. It's not all that bad and nothing some paint correction can't fix.

I rented a built 4runner in CO few years ago and my wife and I slept in a RTT for a week in the backcountry. It had a memory foam mattress and was awesome. This particular Tepui's mattress felt like the ****ty little hard thing you slept on in the bunk beds at summer camp as a kid. And my wife is almost 6 months pregnant so she was even more uncomfortable than I was. I also don't have a roof rack yet so it's kind of nerve wracking to carefully climb on window sills and the roof to set up and take down the tent. Wind noise on top of the truck was pretty bad as well. The bag fit very tight, even with no bedding in the tent. I also don't do this enough to justify the cost, I think it would be better spent on organization and sleeping in the truck and fuel to get there. If I got a softshell on sale somehow and it had a comfortable mattress, it might be worth it. Hardshell fixes the setup effort and wind noise but is even more expensive. A softshell on a small trailer like that probably fixes most of my complaints from this trip, as long as it's got a good mattress.

Maybe I'm just getting old, the kukenam 3 is highly rated on Outdoor Gear Lab and they even call it comfortable.

Looking to get this group's opinion on this 80. The guy says the vehicle won't go into 3rd gear. May need a new transmission. He's come down to $5400.

The 01 Lx470 we just bought came with the drivers seat all nice and repaired/replaced, but with the original passenger side tan leather. Was it difficult to to get the new cover on?

I used Wallace upholstery here in Tyler. He charged me $300 to do both front seats and $50 to do the center console. So a whole new set of leather front seats was right at $700.

Also, aren't these years of the 80 series the lower horsepower version? I would really aim for the 94 or 95 up ones.

I don't know, but probably more than I'm expecting. I think that listing may be a trap. I really don't know much about repair/maintenance on cruisers, so a later model with no major issues may be more my fit.

Added a slightly used 200 to the family stable.

Got some LC work done over the weekend. Previous, previous owner had lifted this 40 in a primitive manner by removing the spring hangers from the frame and installing some heavy wall square tubing, then reattaching them. On the shackle end they used some long shackles to make it even up. Since day 1 I have had the intention of putting it all back right, it's just taken a few years to get it on the front burner - but here it is.

This weekend I finished correcting the front end. I cut the jangy stuff off and installed new spring hangers in stock position on the frame behind the axles then installed the OME 2.5" springs and greasable/anti-reverse shackles. I had no idea how this setup was going to compare to the home-made one, but as it turns out it's pretty close. It think it dropped the front between 1/8-1/4". The front is complete - next up rear.

Been tinkering on my 60 "Marge" to get her running as well as my buddy's 60. OEM tstat (missing), paper gasket, and new hardware from Overland Metric fixed the temp problem. I sold a project 8274 I had torn down to my buddy Steve @northwestdf and also bought a parts carb from him. My PO replaced a weber carb with a city racer, but I needed to move over the green ICS connector, it's bracket and the AC idle up. I reinstalled my old VSV and VCV and redid some vacuum lines adding a new OEM intake manifold fuel filter. Choke cable wasn't hooked up to the city racer when I bought the truck, end was ripped off. So new OEM cable from City Racer as well. I have caster shims from Steve on the bench waiting to be installed and new Ubolts from Cruiser Outfitters in the mail.
