2019 Lincoln Navigator on its 3rd set of cam phasers. This time out of warranty. It seems they only last about 30k miles in this thing. Im at 90k miles and the last set were replaced by ford at 60kish under warranty.

Is there a shop recommendation in the Woodlands or North Houston that can do it besides the dealership? I heard there were some upgraded ones that might last longer as well?

I found this online that says Lincoln might cover 33% of the repair. Does anyone know if this is still a valid program they are offering?

You say it's out of warranty and I assume you mean manufacturer warranty. However, did they warranty the last repair? I would think if the dealer did the repair there would be a warranty for the repair itself.

There's supposed to be new parts from 2020 forward that mostly fix the problem. Need to make sure they're installing the redesigned part numbers.

Had mine replaced recently under warranty. It's annoying and glad I got it fixed. I normally remote start my truck. So not sure how long it had been going on. When I was looking into the issue the one thing I could never determine was if the cam phaser rattle actually caused any damage. Anyone know if it causes damage to the engine.

I don't believe it causes any immediate damage, but if you don't fix it, eventually you'll have problems.

We went through the same crap with my wife's Expedition. It really sucks. Soon after I replaced them her transmission went out (out of warranty). I'll never buy another Ford.

I went through it back in 2014 with a 2011 Flex. At the time, Ford wasn't acknowledging it as a problem in the 3.5L twin turbo Flex, but they eventually fixed it after five weeks.

Now I'm back in an ecoboost with a 3.5L 2019 Raptor. Can't wait for the inevitable repair. It's just a matter of time according to the facebook groups.

The dealerships were using the non updated phasers when doing the repairs.

Our Expedition is now starting to rattle on cold start. We just start it in flood mode (hold gas to the floor) until the cluster pops up (around 4-5 sec and builds oil pressure) and she doesnt rattle, obviously I know it rattles and needs phasers, and the plan is to replace all of them, chain, chain tensioners, guides, gaskets etc since we plan on keeping a while. Parts will cost around 1200 for OEM ford parts....

Can't help you on the out of warranty stuff, but just thought I'd post that my expedition just got first full replacement of cam phasers at 90k but we had premium care ESP so it was all covered but for driver side catalytic converter replacement that was shared in cost with Ford.

I've had the rattle since about 40k and had various TSB's and PCM reprograms over the years but no one at ford has ever gotten to the point of replacing fully. finally got a CEL, rough idle, and complete shut down a few times the past month.

Dammit. I started my truck up this afternoon and heard the rattle for the first time. 2022 with the 3.5. 65K mostly highway miles.

This is great, I just bought my boys a '22 F150 with a 3.5 Ecoboost and 43k miles. Guess I'll shop for an extended warranty.

I've got a 2019 F150 3.5 that has had the cam phaser rattle for the last 90,000 miles, it has had no ill effects on the vehicle, hasn't gotten worse hasn't gotten better. Fuel economy is exactly the same as it was 50,000 miles ago, no power issues at all, it still goes when I want it to go, no check engine light, no rough idling, no degradation at all that I can tell. Can anyone verify that the rattle is actually damaging anything? As far as I can tell it is literally just a noise annoyance for the first 2 seconds on a cold start.

Not supposed to be a problem post-2020. The cam phasers were changed to an improved part some time in 2020 - from everything I've read.

Reviving an old thread as this popped up on a Google search. Just heard the rattle in our 2020 Expedition with 110,000 miles. Obviously, I'm out of warranty. Curious to know what the long term effects are here as I was planning to get another 65,000 out of the vehicle before moving on to another SUV.

Ignore it. When trading it in make sure its nice and hot before they test drive it and less likely to rattle.
