The plastic(-ish) bed caps on my 2018 Ram 1500 have faded and unfortunately, they also seem to be shedding fiberglass(?) and it gets in our forearms etc when we lean on the bed or kids climb around on it. Is there a way to coat/restore this or do they just need to be replaced? I've got a spray-in bed liner, so maybe the spray on option replacement is the best. Thanks in advance.

You can pop them off and buy replacements that snap in.

You may try going over it with a heat gun. Move quickly and hold it 8-12 inches over the plastic.

This. Or VRP by chemical guys or any water based dressing.

Or buy new caps?

Do you use drive through washes often?

Yes. I use drive through. Not a ton; maybe 1-2 times a month.

Cerakote plastic restoration is the best I've used.

Put some over a year ago on a car that sits outside 99% of the time and the plastic still looks new. Nothing else I've tried has lasted that long

Weird it feels like fiberglass though. Not sure that anything will help that.

This is a Cerakote treated wiper cowl after a year plus sitting outside. I couldn't treat the part deep in where the wiper linkage sits, but the rest of the Cerakoted plastic still looks relatively the same

I used a product called "Back to Black" on mirrors and other armored parts of a project truck. Relative to wait it cost vs replacement costs…. I was happy with the results. However, if the material is coming apart…. It won't help that.

The rinse water has drying agents like acetone and other chemicals that are very harsh on plastics unfortunately.
