2024 Nissan Platinum Reserve 4x4 - Need new truck tires.
Majority of my driving is highway (35K miles a year) but 20% is off-road in Piney Woods sandy soils or other raw land and usually wet/muddy. Assume an all-terrain is the only option?

What is the go to AT these days that has the best highway manners and decent tread life?

I have Toyo Open Country AT3s on my F150. Had them about 2 years now, no problems.

You're in a really tough spot, in my opinion. Most ATs aren't going to last you 2 years but it sounds like you actually need them… you honestly sound like you need some Michelins but they're not that great in the mud. However, neither are any of the all terrains.

Pick your poison on the ATs, plenty of options out there. Toyo, Nitto, Falken, BFG.

20% off road is a lot actually. I'd prioritize your off road needs.

I have heard some good things about the Falken Wildpeak AT4W - good (quiet) on Hwy and long tread life. Looks like they have a 60 or 65K tread warranty.

Anyone have some personal experience with them?

Yup, that's why I recommended. Ran the AT3Ws previously which held up really well.

The AT4W's are similarly quiet on the road, and I've experienced good off-road grip in mud and sand. Wet traction is also really good.

I've had good luck with Michelin LTX AT2's on my F150.
They are great on the highway - Good in the sand/beach and on deer lease roads.
And I get 60,000 miles +/- out of them.

I have been running Cooper Discover ATP on my F250. On my second set. First set exceeded the mileage by about 10K. My on-pavement to off-pavement ratio is probably closer to 75/35. I also haul heavy trailers probably 20 times per year.

I will continue to use them.

I recently put the Cooper Discover on my f150, have been great on the hightway, great wet traction, and quiet, but have been getting way less MPG than I was with the OEM tires.

I like these tires as well and they have good tread life but they will drop your mpg when switching from stock. I usually lose about 1.5-2 mpg on my tundras with them.

Only about 1500 miles on mine so far, but definitely notice it when running 80 or above.

Do they get a bit better as they age?

Another vote for the Wildpeak. Great tire

Yes. Got about 55k out of my set on my silverado 2500hd. I am in the market for a new set at the moment so I am interested to hear from others as well.

Mine never did but I still really like the tire overall.

A salesman at work has 295/65/r20 Toyo AT3's on his F-250 6.7 and has around 65k on them. He probably could get another 10k out of them if he wanted to. Highly recommend the AF3's or the Toyo RT trail if you want a little more aggressive tire for in the sand. We have seen both last over 60k on multiple trucks.

Mich LTX are the best all al round tire.

I put on the Toyo just for the looks and they are certainly noisier on the highway and I don't expect them to last as long.

I'll second Toyo Open Country ATs. On my second set on my F250 and I got 70,000 on my first set.

I ran 3 sets of BFG KO2's on my 2015 Tundra for 85k each

Based on that I can't recommend anything but those. Rotated every 5k and they performed just fine in Minnesota winters.

I agree on the Michelins but not for the East Tx mud OP described.

Rented a wrangler for the weekend in Vegas for some back country adventures in the Sierras. They're rocking the Wildpeak M/T and we're currently going 75 and it ain't bad at all.

I have Nitto Ridge Grapplers on my land cruiser. In any kind of mud I wish I had M/T. I'd suggest going that route if your 20% off road

Plus 1

I ran recon, grappler, and Ridge grappler for years, installed a set of these on my new super duty right after I got it.

Excellent highway, manners, and so far pretty good on
Small off-road things I've thrown at it. You do hear a teeny bit of road noise, and once the radio is turned on, it's drowned out. Just enough whine to be cool.
