I am in the market for a MB performance convertible. I keep going back and forth between AMG CLE 53 and AMG SL 63. I love the sound and performance of the SL, but the price and fact that no adult (sans a dwarf) could fit in the backseat. The new CLE 53 can fit adults in the back and is not nearly as expensive….but loses on performance. I have never owned an MB, so appreciate any thoughts.

The CLE53 is a better all around car - the SL63. I've driven at COTA several times. It's super fun there. But man it depreciates the fastest of their cars. If you can get a CPO SL63 at a great price it would be pretty sweet.

The CLE53 on the track isn't very fun.

But really depends what you want to do with it.

I actually vote CLE53 based on looks alone. Pretty sure that's what I saw the other day in a flat gray paint that had me drooling. I am not a car guy and DGAF about Mercedes but damn it was beautiful.

If you're considering an SL63 the rec for going CPO is the right answer due to the depreciation curve on them.

Avoid the 2022 models and look 23+

I would buy the SL. It is much more exclusive than a CLE.

I have owned 4 different Mercedes, including a couple of 2 doors. One had a back seat, the other did not. When you buy a fun car just accept that it isn't a family hauler.
