Looking for a new truck and probably pulling the trigger on one very soon. I was thinking gas Chevy but the Rams look great. Any potential pitfalls I'm missing or should consider?

Do you have a second vehicle to drive when the Ram is in the shop?

I don't. I drive an F150 right now that has been nothing but a drain of money and sanity. Looking at something else.

I bought my ram in June 2023. About to turn 50K. No major problems requiring repair so far, but I also shouldn't be having any at 50K. Hemi with etourque.

Nice ride, tows great, 8zf transmission seems to be the best one out there in the half ton market. Controls the weight well when we go into the hill country. Got the 3.92 with the 33gal tank, and the highest Lone Star option package (I think its called the #2 or Plus package)

Annoying things:
  • Uconnect is not great IMO. I have to reboot about once a week to keep my phone connected
  • Plasticy rattle in my door I cannot find. I do think of interior trim feel & quality, Ram feels behind others.
I'm keeping my eye out for the broken manifold bolts. if it becomes an issue I'm going to replace with these since the OEM ones just suck:

Have a 2020 Cummins 2500 that has been flawless. Brother got a 2021 Rebel that has been flawless. Other people have different experiences.

Prior was a 16 Chevy with chronic trans issues then a '19 F-150 that cam phasers replaced 3x before 22k miles.

All have issues. Choose on price and preferences.

Get a 2026 with 100k warranty. Ram is no worse than ford or gm anymore.

Retired rancher. I have had them all. Started buying Rams back in the 80s when they changed the body style. The Cummins was unbeatable and could pull a loaded stock trailer with no strain. Now I am retired driving a 2024 half ton hemi and loving it. It is the upscale version. The interior competes with any car and the ride is exceptional. Thirty years of experience convinced me to stay with Ram. Hope you enjoy yours

You can supposedly get some good deals on Rams lately. Reliability seems to be luck of the draw. Maybe buy an extended warranty if you get a RAM, but then again I'm the kind of person who gets extended warranties on most vehicles because I keep them a long time.

Go on YouTube and look what happened to TRD Jon when he decided to stray from Toyota and buy the new Ram.

Based on this board every truck sucks and has issues so pick the one that meets your needs and checkbook. Get a warranty.

This. Read this board alone and see how many problems GM and Ford and even the new Toyotas have.

Just add automatic fire suppression to your garage. Should be fine.

It's a composite coating with metal structure and only on the upper control arms which have slight load bearing. Not a big deal

I've had Dodge, Nissan, GMC and Ford trucks. Honestly the GMC was the most problematic and the second Ford I currently own follows, but the Ford stuff has been minor. There is currently no "better truck". It's popular to hate on Ram the most on this board so asking about a Ram will get the comments going.

More often than not you'll be fine, but any and all could have a problem long term. Get what you want!

I've got a 2019 Ram 1500 Laramie 4WD with a Hemi. Just turned 140k. No issiues. First RAM I've owned. With the new 100k warranty on the 2026's I'll most likely end up buying another in the next few years.

If RAM is handing out a 100K warranty and GM and Ford are not, then this is a no brainer. You get a RAM.

I've got a 2010 Ram with 148k. Biggest expense so far was upgrading to Katzkin seats and an Alpine 9 inch screen stereo with Apple CarPlay.

Loving my 2022 Ram 1500 Laramie Night Edition. 5.7 Hemi (no eTorque), 3.92. Ordered it through Mark Dodge back in Feb 2022.

First time in my life to get an extended warranty due to all the electronics and got a pretty good deal I think, $1245 for a 8yr/85k.

The ride is great and so far no issues at all -- knock on wood. My only complaint was the "throttle lag", making the truck seem heavy/sluggish. Got a PedalMonster and made a big difference! (mentally?)

My brother has had a 2017 Ram (previous gen) he bought new and has close to 200k miles and no issues.

I got one as well. $1700 for 7yr/140K. I thought it was good enough to pull the trigger.

I've owned three over the years and got nearly 200k on each one with the only issue being a couple of broken manifold bolts…Get you one!

All of these RAM owners. Every one of you died in a spontaneous truck fire on I35 and you know it. Quit posting from Hell.

I switched to Ram this year with a
'25 2500 megacab diesel. Don't know if I trust them enough for a half ton yet but happy so far and new 8speed is great. I used some of the savings vs ford or Chevy to buy a bumper to bumper warranty to hedge my bet.

it will be hard to ever go back from the megacab.

Why do I gotta be in hell??? I let old ladies cross the street in front of me. I park in the back of the lot so my kids don't wing the doors open and ding somebody's car. I move over if someone needs to pass. Maybe I am in heaven cruising with my man JC riding shotgun in my 2018 RAM with 111k on the clock and loving it.

What does this board think of the new Hurricane engines Ram is moving to? I think it's been in the Wagoneer for a few years which doesn't inspire confidence right off the bat.

I think this is a lot of cope. I know both have had their problems, but what are the problems with the MY 2023+ Fords?

Ram brought back the Hemi for 2026.

I only know two people who have the 3.0 and they say it's fine. But I haven't researched any issues from forums or articles.

I have a 2023 with only 32k miles.

Biggest issue is some idiot decided to put the front sway bar link right under the oil drain plug which requires a huge piece of cardboard, or large flat metal catch pan (like a cookie sheet) + oversized drain pan to catch the splash. Then his bigger idiot twin brother put the filter right over the electronic steering control and that makes an even bigger mess. I've tried the 1 gallon plastic bag trick to get the filter out but that didn't work so well. Only thing that kind of worked was to cut up an empty gallon washer fluid jug into a make shift funnel and catch the filter spill and allow it to drain out the handle of the old bottle into the drain pan...but still a PITA b/c you can hardly get your hands in there without it running down your elbow.

I've always been a change my own oil guy if nothing else to just look under the car and make sure I don't see anything else wrong (leaks or broken UV Joint cover). But this is making me rethink and pay the $100+ to get a shop to do it. I think one time my neighbors complained to my wife about the string of expletives let fly when the main drain hit that sway bar, then hit my oversized drain pan in such a way as to cause the oil to shoot out 90 in two directions and coat the insides of the front tires/wheels.

I've seen that and some folks love it and some say it eventually leaks at the hoses.

I have a '22 Ram Laramie. 70,000 miles. No major problems. U Connect was bad at first but a factory update fixed the issue. I have owned Ford, Chevy, and Tundra. This is the best riding truck I've owned. The interior on the my Laramie is very nice.
