Howdy,

Thinking of trading my '19 Tacoma 4dr off-road with 68k for a '10 Land cruiser with 104k, listed for $29k

I live in the Denver area and regularly hunt, mountain bike, and camp, which can take me on some rough roads, but I do not off road for the sake of offroading. Married with a 2 year old and 4 day old, we also have an 80lb dog. Other vehicle is a '24 AWD sienna, so we do have a good family vehicle already that is not hampered by snow on paved roads.

The LC would be way better in the event I am taking the whole family along on something like a camping trip, but taking 2 big coolers for elk hunts might start to cramp on space, and there's no throwing a gutted mule deer in the back like I can with the Taco lol.

The Taco has a canvas topper, Bilstein 6112 front with 1.4" lift, 5160 rear with add a leaf 1" lift. It doesn't have the tech package, so cloth seats, no heated seats (would add myself this winter if I keep it).

To me, the truck is a next 5 years vehicle before I start looking for something different, the LC would probably be a "use this as my casket in a burial mound" type vehicle.

What says the auto board?

I have no idea if that's a good trade based on price. But, it would heavily depend on how well the owner has maintained the LC.

How much cash are they bundling with the Land Cruiser?

Looks like it was a vacation home vehicle in Aspen for awhile, very low miles added. It started out in CT so I'd want to crawl under it with a light to look for rust. Carfax seems like it was regularly taken to dealers for service.

I haven't spoken to the selling dealership at all, will likely go check tomorrow. The Tacoma was $34k before trade in, no idea what fair value is if for it. I wouldn't expect to come out ahead on the trade. Should I?

Edit: KBB has trade in value of my truck from 26.5-29.6.

Sorry if these questions seem dumb, I've only bought a Tacoma, Sienna, and GTI, only time I've ever dealt with a trade in was the GTI to Tacoma move and the GTI was a pile of crap.

So, I sold my Jeep Gladiator and bought a Land Cruiser about three years ago. If you notice, I just started a thread looking for a Jeep contact to buy another Gladiator. You'll miss the truck bed. That being said, I'll be keeping the Land Cruiser because it is awesome.

And I can use it to pull my Jeep out when it gets stuck.

Thanks!

I'm sure there will be times I do, it was mostly used for mountain bikes with a tailgate pad. Already planning to buy a hitch rack of I get the LC.

I only drive about 7-8k a year the last 2 years, so the mileage difference isn't a big deal to me. Looks like I should inspect the kdss valve for rust when I go look at the LC tomorrow.

inspect the top of the radiator for hairline cracks

Both are awesome vehicles. YOLO. As far as hauling a deer out, maybe use a cargo tray in the hitch?

That'd be the plan. I've only taken one out whole since it was right near the road. Usually I quarter them where they fall and carry quarters out in a pack.

A nice elk head might prove the most difficult to deal with, but I'll happily accept that problem!

Did something similar so think I can help: I went from a '20 Tundra to an '18 LC and haven't missed a beat. I also am a big hunter (leaving for an elk hunt Friday) and can fit everything I need in it. Pakmule rack in the hitch, ARB top rack to tie the antlers down, remove third row seats and fit 2 large coolers and all gear with second row folded down. Pakmule holds another large ice chest plus nasty boots, etc. I've killed and hauled elk, axis, multiple whitetails, and more with this thing and never missed my truck.

Yes, make sure to inspect as others have said, but don't let the thought of it being a 'downgrade' from truck to SUV. Oh, also just get an all weather mat for the backend with 3rd row removed. Have hosed it off with blood stains multiple times. Good luck!

For the radiator, is that a "some of them have this issue" or more towards "all will experience this" type of thing?

Definitely view this as an upgrade. I would do a small lift with the same 6112\5160 combo, fit the biggest at4w size I could, then maybe do sliders, which is the same mod path I had for the Taco. I've taken that truck up some DUMB stuff out hunting.

Still thinking of doing 6112/5160 on my 2010 taco. Not looking for more height but better off road performance.

As a 200 series owner, I only miss my Tundra when I need to do landscaping projects. I have access to a trailer, but the good part is I have more reason to procrastinate doing landscaping projects. Wife took it when I got a Tesla but she's for some reason mentioning getting a newer car even though it's barely got 220K miles.

I think the radiator issue is very prevalent, maybe around 120K miles. Starter is also an expensive job, so it's a bonus if you can confirm those were both taken care of. Valley leak as well.

Appreciate all the help, it was very rusty underneath so I told the sales lady to have a nice day as she was walking up.

Probably not a good sign when they follow you to your vehicle offering to drop the price.
