Yes, my cousin had a pair of titanium rods inserted in her back along her spine once she has reached her teenage more or less adult height. It was a pretty major surgery but she's had no issues I can think of. Married, 3 kids, good health something like 35 years later.
She has a pretty funny story about it: after surgery while she was still hospitalized and recovering, she was in a waiting area sitting on a bench and a random doctor walked by, and complimented her on her excellent posture. She was feeling a bit out of sorts from the discomfort and snapped back "you would too, if you had titanium rods inserted in your back!"
