Yes, my cousin had a pair of titanium rods inserted in her back along her spine once she has reached her teenage more or less adult height. It was a pretty major surgery but she's had no issues I can think of. Married, 3 kids, good health something like 35 years later.

She has a pretty funny story about it: after surgery while she was still hospitalized and recovering, she was in a waiting area sitting on a bench and a random doctor walked by, and complimented her on her excellent posture. She was feeling a bit out of sorts from the discomfort and snapped back "you would too, if you had titanium rods inserted in your back!"

The doctor is recommending corrective surgery for a lumbar curve that is 43 degrees. She is 20 years old. She wore a brace in her early adolescence for a couple of years. The curve was 33 degrees when she stopped wearing the brace and she had finished growing.

She is a candidate for an anterior procedure where they would make the incision on her side rather than down her back. The doctor says the recovery is easier with this method. Just wondering what she can expect for recovery time.

Have a friend that had it years ago. Her post op X-ray is just crazy to me.

I remember it took a pretty long while but I don't recall any complications.
