Ranking Aggie QBs over the last twenty years.

Criteria: must have started at least one game. Judging them on A&M tenure not how they played elsewhere ex: Murray winning the Heisman at OU…

Johnny Manziel (obviously)

Stephen McGee (Tough as Nails. Willed us to victory in some tough games.)

Ryan Tannehill (maybe the most talented pure QB)

Jerod Johnson (Great Aggie. Efficient when not injured.
Should have sat out his last year to fully heal)

Kellen Mond (Durable and pretty efficient)

Marcel Reed (Jury still largely out. Shows flashes.)

Trevor Knight (Superman incarnate. Was pretty mid as a passer)

Dustin Long (didn't get a fair shake - was better than Reggie at playing QB.)

Max Johnson (hard to tell - seems injury prone)

Kenny Hill (started strong, then fluttered)

Kyle Allen (Mostly forgettable. Threw a pretty long ball)

Connor Weigman (for whatever reason just didn't work out)

Reggie McNeal (Fran ruined him.)

Zach Calzada (Beat Bama)

Kyler Murray (Just remember him being very small)

Jake Hubenak (He might have been good if given more of a shot)

Jaylen Henderson (not enough film to say otherwise)

Haynes King (injury bug)

Nick Starkel (injury)

Looking at Kyle Allen, Reggie McNeal and Conner grouping, talk about wasting 5* talent. I think Murray was more of helicopter dad, Kevin Murray, not getting his way.

wasnt he a walk on only playing because of transfers and injuries?

Watch Weigman light it up at UH and maybe become a dark horse heisman candidate. Another Kyler Murray scenario. Bet the farm on it. We waste talent like no other at A&M.

Dustin Long, a Texas A&M quarterback from 2001-2003, threw for 3,218 yards and 23 touchdowns during his career. He notably had a record-breaking sophomore season, including a game where he threw for a then-record 399 yards against Kansas. He also tied the school record for most touchdowns in a season with 19 and set a Big 12 record with 7 touchdown passes in a single game against Texas Tech.

Or maybe it just took losing his job and realizing it's now or never for him to give a **** enough to get back into shape

I disagree that Weigman's performance last year was because of the coaching staff "wasting his talent." He was out of shape and played terribly, period.

reggie mcneal should be significantly higher on this list. kellen mond should move up a few spots as well. wasn't a huge fan of his outspoken stances during the covid year but he ended up being a very durable quarterback who led us to our best season in 50 years when looking at final rankings. those two should move up.

Reggie should be quite a bit higher up. I'd put him just above Marcel for now. He's 4th in A&M history in career passing yards, and 7th for a single season. He's 4th in career total offense.

Yeah, the Reggie ranking is way off. No doubt Fran ruined him, but even so he is at worst top 5. Had Fran not screwed him, he easily be #2 behind only Manziel.

McGee at 2 is ridiculous

First, I hope Conner has a great season and figures things out. It should help him going against Big 12 defenses. Wish nothing but the best for him.

That being said, he was not ready last year while other guys were. That is not A&M's fault. We gave him multiple chances to be the guy and he was not ready.

Seamaster obviously has some bias. McGee and Long both ranked too high. Weigman as well.

It is sad that Johnny is really the only one that consistently elevated the team.

It is also really hard to rank them because of the different offenses, and different supporting talent they had around them.

I don't think he was Superman but he had us rolling pretty good. If he doesn't get hurt at MSU I think we do enough to win and we would also beat Ole Miss.

That's 10-2 regular season with a chance for 11 wins.
We would have been 2nd in West and 3rd overall in SEC.

Playing in the Sugar Bowl probably.

He would be viewed a lot differently.
But if my aunt had balls….

Lol. Not our fault Weigman sucked at A&M. Kyler Murray was just a freshman so totally different.

Long shouldn't even be on the list. He falls outside the OP's 20 year window. 2001-03.

1. Manziel
2. McNeal( falls in because of senior year of 2005)
3. J Johnson
4. McGee
5. Mond
6. Tannehill
7. Knight
8. Allen
9. M Johnson
10. Hill

Hard to find a top ten. Lots of incompletes too with guys like King and Murray. Reed can vault into the top 5 pretty easily with a solid season

Jerrod Johnson is the most overrated player in these type discussions.

He was ok... then he got hurt and was mediocre after? Ok, but that's how his career played out.

Also, flip Tannehill ahead of Mond. Mond got the most opportunities of anybody on here. If he was more talented, we may have won a national championship his senior year.

Long far ahead of freaking Jerrod Johnson.

Other thought- we didn't have a bad run of qbs overall there. Just shows how we are underachiever U. Having Mond only get hurt for ONE play ever (which ended up being a pick v. Clemson)- over 4 years- burned a lot of time A&M really could have been good.
