Criteria: A RB (no QB) with at least 100 carries in a season.

1. Javorskie Lane

He didn't have the most yards per carry but 49 TDS and having a back that could get 2 yards no matter what at any given moment was invaluable.

2. Treyveon Williams

Over 3,500 career yards averaging 6 yards a carry with 34 TDs.

3. Cyrus Gray

Over 3,000 yards. We basically won every game where he rushed for over 100. 30 TDS.

4. Devon Achane

6.4 yards per carry. 21 TDS. Electric home run hitter.

5. Courtney Lewis

30 TDs. 2711 yards. 5.2 per carry. He quietly was a bright spot on some bad teams.

6. Isaiah Spiller

Just under 3k yards. 5.5 per carry and 25 TDs.

7. Christine Michael

Shared carries with Gray. Just under 3k yards. 34 TDs.

8. Jamar Toombs

Just a rumbling monster. He taught us what it meant to have a big RB. Only 4 yards per carry but 26 TDs.

9. Trey Williams

*only 1,343 career yards but at 6.6 yards per carry.

10. Tra Carson

Another durable and effective big back.

11. Mike Goodson

Just under 2k yards. 5.3 per carry. 13 TDs. I feel like he had more talent than that though.

12. Le'Veon Moss

5.6 yards per carry. Nice size. Could move up the list.

13. Ben Malena

A solid back in JFF era.

14. Derek Farmer

Poorly used. Way too predictable play calling during his era. Still managed decent production.

15. Amari Daniel's

I like the change of speed he brings. Still time for more.

16. Keith Ford

The last "pure" big back I can remember.

17. Ruben Owens

Like everyone else, looking forward to seeing him healthy. He can shoot up this list I think.

18. Brandon Williams

19. Joshua Corbin

Edit: all of these guys were good backs, otherwise they wouldn't have gotten the carries.

Moss? Or is this someone else that I'm not familiar with?

Solid list. Seeing a list like this always brings back flashbacks. I with Keith Ford was utilized more.

I won't argue with this. One of my most vivid memories at a game as a student was (I believe) the 2007 Oklahoma State game. We pulled seats in the shade on first deck and it was still hot enough that people were dropping like flies all around us. We were down by some obscene number in the first half and J Train just decides to win the game all by himself, 3 yards and a cloud of dust style (plus one pass just for good measure). Everybody on both sides of the game realized 1) it was way too hot to go into overtime, and 2) there was no way to stop a first down if we had 2 yards or less to go.

Trey Williams was the second biggest waste of talent this school has seen in 30 years, right behind Reggie McNeal.

Coaches ought to be in prison for that kind of neglect

I don't know if he was the "best," but Achane was the most impressive back I've ever seen play for us. He probably got hurt too much to be considered at the top, but when he was on, his speed, agility and strength were insane. At least we had the Orange Bowl?

Mike Goodson , Christine Michael, Devon Achane in that order. Duh

Jarrin John Kimbrough great player. Aggies won a National Championship & he was a Consensus All-American OOPS.. He played a few years before this...

I'm partial to Cyrus Gray. It was a thing of beauty watching him wear down defenses. He seemed to get better and better as the game wore on. I think Treveon Williams should be at the top though considering that he has the school record for rushing and all purpose yards in a season.

Considering the passing game or lack there of and the defenses Moss has had to go against and our putrid oline play I feel like he is underrated on this list.

I really hope he is 100% this year.

No way on this planet Courtney Lewis was a better back than Toombs.

Like not even in the same grouping.

How old or young are you?

Willie Mays is likely the greatest Baseball player of all time but he doesn't have the best stats.

Courtney Lewis played in a very different offense with a much better (well not according to you) Quarterback. Toombs played a lot of fullback but is an F'ing Legend.

Man, Derek Farmer had a bad ass freshman season. I can still remember RC sending him out on the field from the sideline probably tired AF, but all RC knew was the I formation and pounding the ball. Farmer wasn't big either like Toombs or Lane but damn did RC abuse the hell out of him.

Goodson and Malena should be higher. Carson lower. Like where you have Cyrus Gray though, maybe my favorite back in the 2000s and would maybe be #1 if he hadn't had to share carries with Christine Michael.

Are you misremembering? It was Sherman who didn't run him against Arkansas St to try and prove a point, and then lost the damn game.

Fran rode that man into the ground.

You are half right. Yes, Sherman wanted JTrain to be a full back and thus we lost to Arky St

But famously, with Gameday on site, against a ranked OU team Fran did not give it to JTrain inside the 2 on 3 different downs and then kicked a field goal and we lost by 2

I went back and looked at Toombs stats and he should not be on this list, he played in a different area 98-00.

Courtney lewis had an amazing freshman year and got way worse every single year

kind of forgotten from back in the day...

one thing Sumlin did better than Sherman...was integrate the players he inherited

Sumlin also inherited a very talented and temperamental RB...but he was able to get him on the same page for a productive senior year in 2012
W
8:37a, 8/1/25
and along those lines...

lots of posters say that Sumlin did not leave Jimbo any talent...

Trayveon was an excellent running back...and deservedly ranked in the top 3

Sumlin left Jimbo a good one

Jorvorskie was definitely not no. 1. That would have been somebody out of Achane, Trayveon, Cyrus, and C-Mike. Probably Achane.

Achane suffered from too much Jimbo as OC/playcaller.

What game was it where Achane was tearing it up but then Jimbo sat him and put in Spiller the entire 4th quarter to lead us to defeat?

Jimbo always talked about what an explosive weapon he was but then wouldn't give him more than 15 touches a game.
