What tradition do they have besides winning?
Frankly, I much prefer our traditions over theirs.
You prefer The 12th Man, sawing off, Yell leaders, midnight yell, and others
To winning conference championships and national championships?
Unless I misunderstand your intent, this is a classic "would you sell your soul?" question. My guess is most would not but will be interesting to see the responses. I would not. Would you?
So... you win the natty and the next day the Spirit of Aggieland is gone. No more yell leaders, no more FTAB, no more 12th man and all that comes with it, nothing unique remains. We bring down the posts and settle for an eternity of some iteration likened to jumping around to an irish-ish rap bands hit song from the 90's.
Pass...
Don't know what year you graduated, but most of the aspects that make A&M unique and appealing to this of us who are former students from at least 10 years ago or further back are completely gone. It is not the school or experience that many of us remember and cherish.
So since the university itself has decided to remove much of what made it special, and turn it into an aspirational 100,000 student diploma mill, yes, I would be willing to give up on many of the traditions the school has already given up on for just one chance before I die to see us do something more than win a dying conference 30 years ago.
There is a Nuno article on here about how 2012 was a 'once in a generation' type of thing. Sure, that was a fun year, Manziel was amazing, Heisman, all that was great. But ultimately all we did was get to double digit wins and finish 3rd in our division. The only time getting to double digit wins since 1998. Sorry if I don't consider that once in a generation aspirations. I expect championships of some kind. All else just falls to the ho-hum pile.
I got my MBA from SMU. They were skewered and left for dead a few decades ago. The laughing stock of the entire sport. And even they have managed to accomplish more than we have, and they had to dig themselves back out of the ashes.
