Elite pass rusher before we got him, good pass rusher while we had him, elite pass rusher after he leaves. Our d-line coaches did not coach up our NFL talent last year

Kids who have their NFL draft status decided and who are playing not to get hurt don't care what a coach says. And it's not like we had anyone else who was going to be any better than the half-ass effort some of our DL were giving.LV98AG said:
If Nic was truly on "cruise control", then I still would consider it a coaching issue. If player is not performing to the top of their ability, it is the coaches responsibility to get the effort from the player or make a change.

...or a player hit cruise control after a solid 6 games when draft grades started being released...

You serious Clark?
If serious, both DL's this thread is about are examples. Plus both Bennett brothers, even more so Mike. Kyle Allen (while not an all-star in the NFL, a guy who couldn't even play for us manages a multi-year NFL career with a lot of starts). I guess you could put Tannehill in there too. A pretty good QB for us who turned that into a decade+ quarter billion career earnings NFL tenure. Ricky Seals-Jones is another.
It's as if you think players' primary interest is winning, school spirit, and loyalty.the most cool guy said:MaroonStain said:ahpetty33 said:

Still unacceptable. We need to reevaluate who we're paying large sums of money to and putting out on the field if we have players hitting cruise control just to get through the season and get to the NFL.

What do you think a college player wants more between: (1) great personal stats/performance + a loss; (2) lousy personal stats/performance + a win? I realize there are other combinations, but your choice between these two will explain where we're at. Hint….players are in college to make it to "the league". (Or maximize their NIL if they fall short.). Winning is secondary. When a player is convinced his draft stock is solidified, he's going to shut it down, as we've repeatedly seen.the most cool guy said:texag101 said:It's as if you think players' primary interest is winning, school spirit, and loyalty.the most cool guy said:MaroonStain said:ahpetty33 said:

Not sure where you came up with "school spirit" and "loyalty" from what I said. I don't expect either of those.
I do expect players here to be interested in winning, like the players at winning programs are.

What'd you expect when we hired the DL coach and DC from the worst front 7 team in the SEC in Florida

He was great at Penn State 10 years ago but if we dont put up at least 30 sacks this year w/ Elko calling plays it will be telling.
