He was one of the good guys in college football. Such a shame for him.

He was there too long and things got stale. He had a good run up until last year.

I'm not sure Ok State will ever do better than his best years, but they can do better than where he has them today.

With T. Boone gone his days were numbered. But he also got them to their highest heights, and Okie State is a hard place to win at.

two losing seasons in 20 years, all while coaching with one hand tied behind his back

He deserved better, he deserved to finish the season imo

"The move comes one day after Gundy, 58, told reporters that he "100 percent" intended on remaining at Oklahoma State after the 2025 season."

Living in Tulsa these days so get a lot of daily OSU/Gundy news….Gundy has worn out his welcome with fans, alumni and the boosters..he became very arrogant and stale after T. Boone passed away…He refused to play the NIL and transfer portal game the first couple of years it started and it's put OSU in a hole…All things/relationships eventually come to an end..

Yep. They'll look back fondly on him as a guy that got close. In the playoff era he would have had his shot a number of times.

He's lost the team. He 1-11 over the past 12 games. It's time. And the university did him a favor by protecting his career record.

Good Lord!!!!

"Father's shooting

In the spring of 2005, Kinne's father, who was also his coach at Canton High, was shot in the chest by the disgruntled parent of one of the players he coached. According to police reports, Jeff Doyal Robertson, the father of a player who had often complained to coaches and administrators regarding the way his son was treated, walked into the Canton Fieldhouse and shot Coach Kinne at point blank range. Robertson then fled in his pickup truck and headed east towards Tyler, Texas. Kinne Sr. was on the phone with another coach who was at another school when he was shot. Kinne Jr. was taken by police into protective custody, and then told that his father had died when in fact he had survived despite being given only a 10% chance to live. Robertson was later apprehended in an area north of Tyler near Interstate 20 where he had slashed his wrists in an apparent suicide attempt. Robertson was convicted of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and was sentenced to 20 years in prison.[5]"

It would be. It would also be a dumb move for G. J.. he needs to wait for a program that has NIL money. A better program will call.

And after all that, he still decides he wants to go into coaching?! Wow! No doubting his dedication to the profession.

we shall see if Klein is a real candidate or not real soon (he wouldn't necessarily go during the season, but if could be disruptions in offensive production ).

Oklahoma State is not built for long term sustained success. Gundy's mistake was not leap frogging from Okie Lite to a bigger program that can compete for Championships like Les Miles and Jimmy Johnson did.

" Gundy will be owed $15 million by the university."

Amateurs. What kind of commitment is that to a coach that you end up firing. /s

This NIL thing again... OSU is not any poorer than the rest of their Big 12 competitors, and the athletic revenues prove it, as they're right up there at the top. The reason for poor NIL is because Gundy refused to play that game until this offseason. If the right coach comes in, he'll have plenty of money to compete in the Big 12. They will never compete nationally again, nor will any other Big 12 school, but it's a great proving ground for an up and comer.

I think OSU is a great location for a coach to try for a Power 2 job. Texas has plenty of looked over 3-4 star talent that will go there, the alumni want to win, and the competition you face is crap. A good coach can use that as a stepping stone for a Power 2 job.

He should sit for the remainder of the season and rake his pick of Head Coaching positions in the off season !

Virginia Tech and UCLA have already fired their coaches, and Florida will be firing theirs at some point this season. Add to this the possibility that Clemson may have their coach retire, and you really need to get out ahead of the searches.

So what is the rule now? Can the players all yell "red shirt" and hit the portal?

Add Pig Coach to this list, Tittman is likely fired after they get whipped by the Domers.

There is actually an advantage to firing mid season now. The Portal opens for a 30 day window allowing players to leave but very few schools are in the position to take in players mid season right now due to scholarship numbers. If they fire at the end of the season then that thirtyday window is deadly to a program with players getting the opportunity to leave when there is alot less competition in the portal

He really seems to hate NIL, much like Dabo. Might be expecting too much for him to change his ways
