We have a talent for making mistakes at the worst time. The running into the kicker penalty and the illegal lineman downfield could each have cost us the game. Clean things up a bit and we could be pretty good.
Unfortunately, having now been an avid college football watcher for 34 years, 4 games in you are what you are, and it's highly unlikely some switch is going to flip where we become a smart football team. We were 120th in the county yesterday in penalties per game at 8.33. Auburn was right below us at 124 and 8.5. New stats haven't come out yet, but they'll be worse for both teams. It's going to cost us games this year that we should otherwise win. I also don't like Elko's answer that if he knew what was wrong he'd fix it. You're getting paid 7+ million a year to both know what is wrong and fix it, with your Ivy league degree.
We had lots of dumb penalties last year too, which I would not have expected from an Elko team. Hopefully this doesn't become an Elko hallmark.
