We have a talent for making mistakes at the worst time. The running into the kicker penalty and the illegal lineman downfield could each have cost us the game. Clean things up a bit and we could be pretty good.

Unfortunately, having now been an avid college football watcher for 34 years, 4 games in you are what you are, and it's highly unlikely some switch is going to flip where we become a smart football team. We were 120th in the county yesterday in penalties per game at 8.33. Auburn was right below us at 124 and 8.5. New stats haven't come out yet, but they'll be worse for both teams. It's going to cost us games this year that we should otherwise win. I also don't like Elko's answer that if he knew what was wrong he'd fix it. You're getting paid 7+ million a year to both know what is wrong and fix it, with your Ivy league degree.

We had lots of dumb penalties last year too, which I would not have expected from an Elko team. Hopefully this doesn't become an Elko hallmark.

As much as we all love to bash Durkin, he had his defense playing well yesterday. They really kept Reed from getting into a rhythm and did a good job covering our key recievers. Their blitz packages were a good test for our O line and I'm glad we got to see that kind of pressure early in the season.

Oklahoma, a seemingly bonafide top 10 team, only took down Auburn by 7 in their own house last week. And that's with the 7 points that the refs gifted them on a certified bad call.

If you're going to say "Oklahoma looks great", you have to at least acknowledge that Auburn can put up a fight.

Every team is a great team until we beat them and then they aren't a good team.

I think they only had one explosive play all night to that WR

No, doesn't include return yardage.

That's a bold prediction. Auburn has 2 losses and they still have to play Georgia, Alabama, Missouri, and Vandy.

I think they go 2-2 against that slate.

Like some have already said, they aren't great, but they are a good football team.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER!

Do I think Auburn is a great team? No

But it sure is amazing how much credit OU got for cheating to win at home against them.

But as we well know 8-4 does not get you ranked.
Especially when you have all those 10-2 teams that lost to the only two teams they played with a pulse.

Reality check time.

Only Vanderbilt has lost more SEC conference games than Auburn in the last several years.

Let that sink in. Auburn is on par with old Vandy (before Pavia).

By SEC standards, they are not a good team being upstaged by Vandy.

Auburn D is probably pretty good, but their offense is not. Arnold might not be a very good QB.

He isn't. Look at the photo I posted above. Had receivers open all over the place but just couldn't see them.

On one play. But watching the game from the 1st row of the 2nd deck, I saw a defense that had everybody locked up almost every play.

There are definitely mistakes to iron out but the performance is there.

We sho ourselves in the foot s d the refs shot us in the foot as well

We should have won by at least three TD's

I'm very encouraged by this performance because we can't possibly make so many mistakes and commit so many penalties again

Nice flex but point remains. Arnold has little field vision. I understand the 12th Man did their part and made a crap ton of noise but he should be able to see the field much better.

We probably have the best defensive back group that we have had in 10 years.

Some of those wrs aren't as open as the op thinks.

This is insane. They had 1 yard of offense in a quarter. Our defense played very well, but our defense isnt that good. Auburn is a train wreck that will lose at least 3 more.

I think you will find that Auburn is good. Problem is, there schedule is brutal right now. See if Freeze can keep em focused and they get some more wins for us.

Notre Dame's defense is not good.

We don't have to defend our wins, so people can say whatever they like.

Sure their D isn't good? Yet they destroy Arkansas and made a very good offense like like you know what.

Watch ND's D work itself back into a top 35 defense.

Yeah, I'm sure. Did you happen to catch their act against offensive juggernaut Purdue? (23 first half points, 300+ yds passing) This was their effort AFTER a week of getting lambasted for getting torched by the Ags.

People who read box scores think Arkansas is a great offense, but the reality is that they've scored a grand total of 10 2nd half points in the last 3 games.

But hey, if you consider good defense yielding 33 ppg to teams who haven't fired their coach then yeah, Chris Ash is your guy

I haven't watched any of their other games, but if yesterday was a true indication of what they have, I'd say they are an average team and have one of the worst quarterbacks I have ever seen play college football.

I agree. It's not like Auburn had receivers running wide open all over the place the whole game. Almost every Auburn completion was contested and very few YAC for Auburn.

Quirky game and those happen in CFB. Any other day we probably win that game 24-30 to 3, but it just wasn't in the cards on Saturday. How often are we ever going to have 1st and 10 from the 14 and end up 4th and 20 and miss a long FG?!?!?! Crazy. But mad the last 2 D series that much more epic.

The Auburn D is legit good. They have serious speed in the secondary and LB. Their DL is decent too but our OL handled them impressively.

Their problem is their OL and a QB that is under too much pressure and when not he holds the ball too long. D gets worn down.

Our O played great between the 20s and only had one huge F up mistake. Gotta be better vs State and Gator.

Great to see the D man up and play like that. York had his best game in an Aggie uniform and all the LBs that manned Scooby's spot played well.
daveinireland

The reason OU couldn't throw last year was because Jackson Arnold was their Qb. Auburn's O made our D look better, just like their D made our O look worse.

Their fans want Freeze fired. Their QB sucks and it is killing their offense

Went to the game, thought Auburn's offense was terrible. I have no idea what they were trying to do. My rule of thumb is - if I can guess what play you're going to run on third/fourth down, you are really bad at playcalling. Late in the game after the long pass to 87 got called back, my dad and I watched the coach talk extra long to the TE before sending him out there, everyone in the stadium knew he was the first option, Ags brought up a safety, dropped a linebacker, sandwiched him, and QB got gobbled up.

It reminded me of our game with the sips last year with roles reversed. We coudn't do crap on offense but hung around because of one big return; Auburn did the same with the INT.

Yeah, the flex was because when I left the game, I was asking people who saw it on t.v. if they could tell what a butt-kicking it was. Because in person with a good view, it was just total domination.

No way. Arnold is just terrible. You're not ending up ranked in the SEC with horrible QB play. I'm not sold on OU at all. Can't run the ball. They average 3.6 yds/carry and Mateer is their leading rusher. Without Mateer they have nothing. Hawkins is ass. Just because they got 9 sacks against Auburn doesn't even make their D great. Again, have you watched Arnold?

That doesn't change us though. Just keep the penalties average and we win by 20. Auburn being bad doesn't effect us. We just need to clean up a few things. This team is going to the playoffs. Auburn being crap doesn't change that.
