  • We had to find the radio frequencies to listen to the games because it was SWC/Big12 and we weren't picked up for national broadcasts?
  • The horseshoe bleachers would burn your cheeks because our shorts were just a lil too short back in the day?
  • The idea of scoring more than 17 points was more than enough because the Wrecking Crew would do the rest?
  • The receivers would automatically fall down catching the ball because they knew they would be killed otherwise?
  • The old weight room was under the corner of the building just before reaching the parking lot?
  • We parked on the other side of the swimming pool and it was a long walk to class?
  • We had to play our guts out to beat teams like tu, Nebraska, Oklahoma because they always had 2-3x the talent we did?
  • We would get so close but lose the final game of the year to Ricky Williams running wild down the sideline? or Oklahoma with the blocks in the back that never got called?
  • Season tickets were $200 a year and that was expensive?
  • Aggies never profited off other Aggies for ticket sales?

You make it sound like that was all so long ago.

I remember wiggling the antennas on my TV in Houston to get a little Aggie football coverage from KBTX.

*cannot relate to the short-shorts part though.

I remember bullet one quite well. Football fans now don't know how lucky they are. Listening on the radio sucked.

I miss listening to Aggie football in the 90s and early 2000s on the radio. Never knew who had the ball or scored the touchdown, but by God Dave South made it exciting.

Who caught the ball?? Who caught the ball??? Was that a catch??

First down, we're at the what is that?? The forty?

You tell me Dave, I'm listening to you while driving to work.

Remember the time Bobby intercepted the ball and his pants fell off, and he ran for the touchdown bare a$$

Back when I used to smoke. I'd listen to Dave South call the game and pace back and forth in the garage chain smoking and drinking tall boys. Back then we'd be lucky to get 2-3 games on tv each year.

Unfortunately, most of our games were televised by the time Fran took over

Remember when we had a scoreboard that only showed score, time, quarter, possession, and timeouts?

Only the FTAB for music and stirring the emotions?

And unquestionably the most potent home field advantage in all of football?

I do.

Yes the SWC and early stages of the big 12 were a slum back then. More than happy to see Kyle field lit up, with an overflow crowd on saturdays @ 6:30PM

They were hideous. The tie was so big and wide it took a barrel of oil to make just one.

I bet they never degraded and you could dig one up at a landfill and wear it today.

We had at least one game on PPV every year all the way through 2013. I'm curious as to when was the last time we had a conference game that was not televised.

When the A&M -t.u. game started being shown on ESPN, most of my family didn't have cable. We would rent a hotel room and cram 14 people in there for 4 hours on Thanksgiving night to watch the game. Great memories!

I'm so old, I wore Aggie mums to games. That was a big deal. How elaborately decorated the mum your date bought for you.

I remember standing by resting places at the north entrance of Kyle Field; looked at the scoreboard, smiling and quietly saying "Thank you for watching over 'em."

Explains my Aggie Nike golf bag. Still have it from when I bought it back in 07.

I remember going to games with my grandparents and my grandpa always carried a tiny radio with him to listen to the radio broadcast while watching the game in person. I also remember standing in the cold pouring rain with my grandpa, dad and uncle just to watch us get beat by Baylor.

One of biggest collapses we ever had was not televised.

2002, up 35-17 in 4th, lose in overtime 48-47 to Kingsbury, Welker & Leach

Driving up on game day and picking up South end zone tickets for $8 each. My sons behind the bleachers during the game with a nerf ball and a pick up game with 30 other kids. Only coming up in the stands for $ to eat or drink.

Same kids on the field after the game still throwing the ball around.

Good times! Great memories!

Thanks for the reminder.

I am a child of the 80's and remember when college was only on the Big 3 networks and you might get a regional game on channel 39. The "Southwest Conference game of the week". So maybe you had 4 games. The interesting thing too there was no ESPN or college Gameday, you had to read the paper on Sunday to find out who won.

My first live game was SMU vs tu in the early 80s, my mom dropped my buddy and I off at Texas Stadium like it was a middle school game. I was in 6th freaking grade going to a game. That would never happen in today's world.

Money is definitely driving programming today, and I am OK with it. The last few week the multi channel has been on to 4 games and you can start watching games Fri thru late Saturday. I am mixed on the live event. (It is an all day event going to a game, parking, food costs and comfort ability, also TV you can see, the field and play is hard to see for me). I'll do it once a year.

Screw going to NFL games.

Great memories. How about Old Movie night at the Grove?

Going to G Rollie seeing what magic Shelby would pull out.

My older brother told me the offense was so bad when he was attending they altered the tradition from kissing your date on scoring plays to kissing on 1st downs

Remember 10-7 as a kid (those of us know the teams and the year from the score)

Afterwards, all i could hear was a bunch of ecstatic Ags saying "it's been TEN YEARS" which to me sounded like an eternity, and to them must have FELT like it.
