It grows in the parking lot and they bring it in on the pallets. A bizarre design to say the least

Having spent some time on more than a few professional fields in different sports. You'd be shocked at how short the grass is and how hard the turf is. It does look pretty on TV but it's not soft up close.

Good to see the pot bangers have found something else to cry about now that the team has left them with nothing to complain about.

Bryant-Denny Stadium has Always impressed me. They have superior Grass. Superior Paint.

Yet A&M is the Ag school.

Just wait till November when the field starts looking like my brown faded back yard.

I have no idea what condition the field is in. It always looks good to me, but if there has been a change it may be due to retirement of Leo Goertz in 2015. Legendary field manager.

Now this is a ******ed post. I worked three years for the field crew. I can testify firsthand that 300lb linemen aren't exactly easy on grass. If you think you can do better, go talk to aggiefieldguy on Twitter. He's one of the best in the business and I don't say that just because he's a former boss of mine. What a stupid post.

The turf does not look great on TV.

Yeah it's taken a beating 4 out of the last 6 weeks. It's grass not asphalt

It is a hybrid. Er a cross, ah, of Bluegrass, Kentucky Bluegrass, Featherbed Bent, and Northern California Sensemilia. The amazing stuff about this is, that you can play 4 quarters on it in the afternoon, take it home and just get stoned to the bejeezus-belt that night on this stuff. ~Carl Spackler

Bring back the Soviet era astro turf we had in the 80s/90s…

I do agree that our turf looks poor on tv. Other stadiums just seem more vibrant. Not sure why. Maybe our lighting?

The field was painted on what, Thursday and Friday? I'm trying to remember when they posted the pics.

For the night game it had very likely been mowed again before kickoff. And it has been recently top-dressed with sand that was quite obviously still on the surface Saturday night as you could see puffs of sand occasionally.

The "replacement" that someone mentioned on page 1... The temporary field that was put down during the middle of renovation season didn't take and started peeling up underfoot during a game. THe following week that field was ripped out and replaced with a very thick cut turf that was essentially too heavy to curl underfoot.

Absolutely. Such a great guy. He was at the helm when our turf began winning the national #1 ranking in the turf grass industry.
When they were renewing the turf in 2005, Leo helped coordinate having a south end zone plug the size of an apple pie cut/ watered/ double Ziplocked/ FedEx'd to me so my firstborn son's first steps could be on Kyle Field end zone turf. The nursing staff blew a gasket having grass and dirt in their strictly sterile recovery room environment. I'll never forget that.
I seem to remember hearing he passed away a few years back. I have no reason to believe their field care regimen has slipped in that timeframe. RIP Leo G.

The black endzones were probably painted not as thick with the black paint since it is really hard on the grass. It looked a little faded because of that.

FRIDAY afternoon

Saturday night

Really looks like it had been mowed sometime Saturday. I THINK it takes 2 days to paint, so the previous mowing was probably Wednesday evening or Thursday morning before painting started.

Too much focus on Mechanical, not enough focus on the Agricultural.

Maybe the next president of Texas A&M will fix this issue.

Anybody that thinks that turf looks anything other than gorgeous is a moron.
I too worked on the field staff as a student worker under Leo (RIP) and Craig back in the 90's. So many folks just completely FOS on this thread and have no idea what they're talking about.

Thanks for sharing this. Leo was one of the kindest, gentlest, most genuine human beings I've had the pleasure of knowing in my just over half century on this planet.

To me, the reason for so much slippage by players is more to do with using molded, shorter cleats than the old screw in studs from the old days. Don't think they grab as well as the studs did. It's trading a lighter, faster shoe in for a heavier more reliable shoe. The field looks amazing though. OP is crazy

Now I will admit that grass gives way, especially when compared to astroturf. However, I'd rather the grass give way, than my running backs knees. Artificial has been shown to cause more injuries. But we've played on Kyle 4 out of the last 6 weeks. It also takes a beating from the band. Those previous pics posted look good considering how much damage it takes.

You can just look at our field and see it's better than most grass fields on tv. We had an issue once when replacing our field on short notice back with Sumlin. Literally our grass looks so good I've watched our games with non Aggies and they make comments insinuating they think we play on artificial and when I say it's grass they don't believe me xD
