To celebrate the 50th anniversary of Texas A&M's 1975 Southwest Conference championship team, the Aggies will wear throwback jerseys vs. Florida on Oct. 11. In 1975, Emory Bellard & Co. went 10-2 and 6-1 in conference to share the SWC title with Arkansas and Texas.

It’s a golden anniversary.

But to celebrate this 50th, No. 5 Texas A&M football is trading gold for new Maroon & White threads to be worn vs. Florida on Saturday, Oct. 11.

In 1975, fourth-year head coach Emory Bellard led an upstart Aggie team to 10 consecutive wins and a share of the Southwest Conference title with Arkansas and Texas.

Led by senior All-SWC running back Bubba Bean (who became the first Aggie to grace the cover of Sports Illustrated that fall), Bellard & Co. climbed to No. 2 in the national polls ahead of a top-five showdown with archrival Texas the Friday after Thanksgiving.

That afternoon, the Ags claimed a 20-10 win over the Longhorns but were upended the next week in a game at Arkansas that had been rescheduled at the request of ABC Sports, ultimately costing A&M a chance at a national title.

Still, with a 6-1 mark in the SWC and a 10-2 overall record, 1975 represents the lone conference title during Bellard’s head coaching tenure and would be A&M’s last until Jackie Sherrill’s 1985 squad.

To celebrate the ‘75 squad, A&M is turning back the clock with throwback uniforms, representing the fourth iteration of a “retro” look from Adidas.

Perhaps the most obvious throwback element is the old-time block “ATM” logo, which appears on a white helmet (with a grey facemask) and on the back collar of the jersey.

White shoulder stripes run horizontally across the tops of the pads from the collar down to the cuff of the sleeve on the Maroon top, equipped with solid white block numbers. While there is no “Texas A&M” typeface across the chest, players’ last names do appear in a basic white font on the back of the jersey.

Additional decoration includes white Adidas “trefoil” (the company’s classic mark) and SEC logos on the front.

Remember, A&M’s 2012-2019 uniforms also featured shoulder stripes, which were inspired by the jerseys worn in the 1970s.

As for the pants, they are basic and white without logos or stripes.

When it comes to cleats, a black classic Adidas silhouette has been modernized for use by today’s players, but whether Le’Veon Moss (and his fellow tailbacks) will wear the bright, highlighter accents they’ve rotated in previous weeks remains to be seen.

Of course, A&M and Adidas released the retail version of the uniforms on Sept. 22.

Previously, A&M honored its 1939 national championship team with throwback jerseys in 2015, the 1956 “Junction Made” Southwest Conference winners in 2016 and the 1998 Big 12 champions by most recently turning back the clock in 2018.

Funny to incorporate the Chicken. Guess it was less than a year old for the start of the '75 season.

Still pumpin that progressive country music.

We're essentially wearing a Big 12/ 90s throwback uni now, with a better helmet logo. I absolutely hated when we added school names on the front, as if fans didn't know the teams. Total high school look.

These 75 unis look tough, as well as those 39 throwbacks. It's why I liked the Manziel era unis.

Kudos Ringo! I've never been a fan of the 90's era/Wilson era jersey either.

Yes, I thought something looked familiar watching the game tonight… and yes time flies when you're having fun. I was a member of the 1975 team and hope everyone is doing well. I know some of the guys are gone now.

Nitpicking…I like them but they would look better if it wasn't a stark WHITE helmet with everything else being not white.
