We have literally no history of doing this at any point under Elko.

Doesn't necessarily mean he's faking. Could mean he was injured but could have got off the field on his own, but was told to get down.

I have had to tell players on the soccer team I coach to go down rather than just tell me from the field that they are hurt. Play will not stop unless you go down. Sometimes a player needs to be told.

All you can say is he signaled like he need to go off at the end of the play and then went down. Maybe there is a better angle but would not be shocked if he was signaled in response.

I like this, a lot. They are starting a discussion about the dollar value on fairness on the field.

I'm all for referring our differences with the SEC into the financial domain.

Let's start discussing the financial impact of putative bias in officiation. I honestly am not so interested in how much money we'd be entitled to as remedy; but simply the process of having that discussion should be adequate to fund programs that will actually scrutinize, and bring transparency to, the performance & fairness of officiation outcomes. As a bonus, it'll put extra focus on (agreeing how to determine) how a given officiation mistake can impact the outcome of a game, a season over many games, and a program over many seasons.

He also went down after the ball was placed or something along those lines... so the timing of when he dropped played into this as well

I dont see him "being fine, looking at the sideline, and suddenly falling on his rear" in the vid you posted. I don't see him at all until the ref waves play dead and he's on the ground and the cam is on him from above.

Is this the first time an SEC team has had a questionable injury that may have been faked?

Was this the most egregious occurrence?

How about you watch. Bottom of the screen in the slot. Can't plant his foot to stay with the receiver and is barely jogging after him. Then looks over at the sideline and throws his hands up. Previous play, he tried running off the field and someone told him to go back on.

Something wasn't right. It wasn't a fake.

I dont see him "being fine, looking at the sideline, and suddenly falling on his rear" in the vid you posted. I don't see him at all until the ref waves play dead and he's on the ground and the cam is on him from above.

You're being willfully obtuse. The telecast showed the replay of him doing exactly that if you actually bothered to watch more than 5 seconds.

Chappell had no contact during the previous play and showed no signs of injury until he sat down and pointed to his right leg. Texas A&M was flagged and charged a timeout because Chappell presented as injured after the ball was spotted.

The senior cornerback returned to the game on the second play of Arkansas' next offensive drive.
"As determined by the National Coordinator, the action by player, especially with the concurrent action by the coach in the team area, is a clear attempt to gain an unmerited advantage by stopping the game to be awarded an injury time out," the conference said in its release. "The action violates the spirit of the injury timeout and fair play and was conducted in a manner that appears to attempt to circumvent the NCAA's injury time out rule to avoid the team being charged a time out."

The conference also issued a public reprimand to Texas A&M coach Mike Elko for the feigned injury violation. A second feigned injury would result in another reprimand and a $100,000 fine. Any further violations of the policy would result in Elko receiving a one-game suspension.

The SEC said further violations will result in additional fines and potentially the suspension of coaches, assistants or players.

Ah ok. I didn't watch that far. An intelligent person would have started the vid at that point since that's where the evidence is! It's not as obvious as you claim.

Both can be true... he was injured and we utilized it to gain an advantage. If you watch the series as someone mentioned earlier Chappel wanted to come off or was gassed and the coaches said he had to keep playing and suck it up as coaches often do. Then when he got beat like a drum the next play I'm sure the coaches up top were on the headset to get him out and then the GA signaled for him to go down. Yes it was an attempt to game the system to not have to sub or use a timeout for an injured player but I dont feel like it was an attempt to simply just slow down the Hog tempo becuse we had been dealing with their pace of play all game and they had not done anything extrememlly different on that drive with regard to hurry up or no huddle.
