Kept saying it wasn't personal as he listed all the things that made Brian Kelly a terrible choice for LSU football coach. Anybody with average critical thinking skills knew that when he was hired, and he's done nothing since then to prove them wrong. Just up front a terrible human being to work for or work with. As I recall, LSU started with a long list of established coaches as candidates and eventually settled for Kelly after they had been rejected by all of them. Kelly was seen as a WTF hire at the time by virtually everyone, and they appeared to overpay for him just to reinforce the illusion that they got someone everyone else wanted.
In the three seasons prior to this year he's had two 10 win seasons and a 9 win season and he's played in a SEC championship game. This season was an obvious regression but it's not like he's been terrible.
He did that largely with the remnants of a national championship team that was top to bottom one the most talented squads within memory, supplemented with access to the incredibly rich Louisiana talent pool. It takes a special kind of coach to regress at LSU with all the built in advantages they have.
This is a stretch, if not pure anti-Kelly propaganda. And I am hardly a Kelly fan, thinking he was a terrible fit for LSU.
First, LSU was a full 3 years removed from their championship year when Kelly got there. The guy, Burrow, that led the way was long gone. Second, O's last 2 years at LSU were .500 both years. The 2021 team had 10 players drafted, including 4 in the first 3 rounds. In 2022, Kelly's first year, they had 6: only one was higher than the 4th round. Third, Kelly didn't regress. Other than 2019, O had one 10-win season and a 9-win. Except for his best three years, he was barely over .500. Kelly was over .700 at LSU with 2 10-win seasons already. He neither had the players from 2019 nor were they quite as talented, at least early on, as the previous regime. If they were talented the last 2 years but didn't perform, that is obviously on him. But you can't say he only won with other guys' players. He won a lot of games at ND with his players.
Should he have been fired? That's for LSU to decide. Is he an *******? Probably. Was he a bad fit and relegated to 9 and 10-win seasons? Absolutely (at least in bad fit; arguably in the record). But don't make stuff up. The poster you responded to was 100% correct.
