I'm seriously thinking of cancelling YTTV in favor of Hulu + live tv. I would save me about $30.00 per month for three months but then the price jumps to comparable YTTV rates. It's, at my age, change sucks.

Lol. What?
Up till this time around it's been traditional cable and satellite (cord) companies in these flights!

Pretty sure this is the first big Streaming Fight with a major content provider.

It's the 3rd one this fall for YTTV (NBC and one other I can't remember) and they also had a standoff with Paramount (CBS, etc) in February. This too shall pass.

Just as Disney hopes you will.

Disney owns 100% of Hulu as of June 2025

Once again the consumer gets screwed over one way or another.

Decent timing for us with a bye week, but what is happening and what are our contingencies?

It would be peak Aggie to have the most success we've had since the early 90s and also not be able to watch them on TV…for an entirely different reason.

As you all know, I love screwing corporations.

I watch all my games on free streaming services online. Yes, all of them, google. I don't watch games on a TV, I watch them on my desktop on my 2nd monitor while I read meltdowns on TexAgs on the other.

Try it. Don't pay these corps anything.

Always amazed by how many people on here have no problem with stealing.

It seems like I'll have to watch the games at a spot with scantily dressed staff and plenty of booze.

It's not their fault. They are trying to hold serve against Disney who is ESPN and who is Hulu.

I'm pissed that y'all are making me defend Google.

ESPN has their own streaming service. Jacking up the price to YTTV probably drives more customers to ESPN directly and cuts out the middleman. At a minimum, they want YTTV to pay around the same amount as what one would pay ESPN directly, so they get the same cash. YTTV can cave and just pay it, but then they will turn around pass the increase to all of us. It's just business.

And then Disney will raise prices to match YTTV. They've always followed one another in pricing.

This. Cancelling YTTV is exactly what Disney wants you to do. Since they own Hulu, Fubo, and the new ESPN service, they are doing this to get people to leave Youtube for one of their services.

ESPN+ Unlimited for $30 a month + Fox One for $10 a month.

Supplement with rabbit ears for broadcast tv on CBS and NBC and I haven't missed one CFB game I've wanted to watch.

We cancelled DirectTv a few months back. Plan was to get YTTV at some point but I haven't yet.

We bought an antenna and plan to pay for a day/weekend/weekend sling pass if there's ever a game we want to watch that isn't over the air. Hasn't been a problem this season between ABC games and kids sports schedules. After the football season is over it won't be a problem until next August.

Oh, I get it. I don't want to change (change sucks) as I indicated in the part of my post not copied and pasted. And, I despise Disney and don't want to give them my money. I'm holding off until next Saturday when it matters.
I can Google games tomorrow as I am only interested in watching tu lose.

I've been happy with Fubo. You can create your own multicast with certain streaming devices and it's got SCHN for Astros games.

It's 100% their fault. They came up with a business model where they have practically no leverage.

They can't advocate or protect their customers from price gouging because they have to succumb to whims of a provider or piss off their entire subscriber base.

For those switching services, check with your credit card company as many offer discounts or rebates to various streaming services.

Do you not understand that YTTV stance is they aren't okay with ESPN continuing to jack up the rate to cover all the crap programing outside the core sports coverage no one wants. And that the expectation is for all the providers (including YTTV) to pass it on to their customers? It's the very reason this problem exists every year with Disney and all of the cable / streaming services. It isn't just YTTV.

They're fighting to not raise your price for no value. And your response is to blame them? I do not understand some of you.

This is true. A big reason for these price hikes is the outrageous prices they pay for broadcast rights. The $50M+ they pay us every year has to come from somewhere.

See my previous post.

I love that you think Google is just looking out for you. Lol.

They aren't. This is pandering to their subscriber-base to show some "good faith effort" of negotiating on your behalf…of which they have no negotiating power. Once subscribers drop to find an alternative means they will absolutely rollover and meet the provider's demands. Likely though, they won't even wait for a subscriber-base to dip.

This is a dog and pony show and some of you are eating it up thinking Google is your buddy at the bar.

I'm not in the media business and have no desire to be.

I do know how to negotiate contracts and protect both my firm and my clients' interests because I do that everyday.

You don't have to like what I'm saying but it's the truth. Google has no power here. They aren't the only game in town and now that their providers have their own streaming platform(s) they have practically no leverage.

I wish I didn't agree with you, but here we are. Both of these companies (and others) continue to do this to squeeze the consumer. It is 100% dog and pony show. They're probably "negotiating" over lobster and liquor.

The important thing here from a business/negotiating standpoint is that Google is basically a pass-thru. They are not producing anything. They are effectively a nice GUI.

They built a streaming service. Their operating costs are probably very minimal compared to those actually producing the content. They are brokering deals with content providers and what makes them attractive is a high volume of subscribers. That is basically the extent of their negotiating power. Those producing the content make the rules. Without content, YTTV doesn't exist.

Now they are losing that leverage because the content providers (Disney, ESPN, HBO, Paramount, etc) all have their own streaming apps. And consumers have bought in to this la carte method of paying for the apps they want.

The providers see this and are in a can't lose situation. Google can either meet their demands or lose subscribers. Those subscribers will not stomach losing the content though so they will find some other means. And the providers are probably hoping that it's through their proprietary apps that they have built up much like Google, who is now a competitor.

These companies aren't stupid. Disney might be evil but they didn't get to where they are without shrewd business skills.

I've been a TYYV guy since 2020 but their business model isn't all the different from the cable companies decades ago.

Disney is only a partial owner. I think they have 70% ??? if memory serves. Still D with the majority share.
