I was very vocally against jimbo towards the end and I never once got the impression he gave up trying. He was just out of his element. The game changed during his tenure. He couldn't adapt fast enough. We've seen tons of coaches fail during the NIL transition. Hell Saban flat walked away from the profession.
Things are so so so different from 5-10 years ago. I'm happy we have a coach who understands that and actually began his HC career in that new era. But I won't hold it against Jimbo for not fully understanding how to deal with it. It just didn't work out.
The biggest issue with Jimbo was that he struggled to win most of the true road games every year except 2020. He ended his tenure with 9 consecutive road losses, including 8 consecutive SEC road losses, dating back to a 29-19 loss at Ole Miss on 11/13/2021.
2018: 1-3 (1-3 SEC) with only a 26-23 win at 7-6 (3-5 SEC) South Carolina
2019: 1-3 (1-2 SEC) with only a 24-17 win at 4-8 (2-6 SEC) Ole Miss
2020: 4-1 (4-1 SEC) with only a 52-24 loss at 13-0 (10-0 SEC) and eventual CFP champion Alabama
2021: 1-2 (1-2 SEC) with only a 35-14 win at 6-7 (3-5 SEC) Missouri, which turned out to be Jimbo's last road win of his tenue
2022: 0-4 (0-4 SEC)
2023: 0-3 (0-2 SEC); interim head coach Elijah Robinson coached our last 3 games, including a 42-30 loss at LSU
