Agree that the offense hasn't done us any favors the last 2 years, BUT if the defense just plays to their standard for the first 11 games (aside from USCe 1H) this past season, we're probably driving to win the game instead of just trying to stay in it. I've talked ad nauseaum about the nonsense going on with our run defense, but it's also ridiculous how we let Manning look like VY out there. I saw Manning in person, and he is by no means slight, but ain't big.

My point is really that Elko has yet to really shut down Sark on defense, so if we're going to laud Elko as this coaching mastermind and he's an 0fer along with regularly giving up well above season averages, we can't be saying Sark sucks.

We're recruiting great. We had a really good season and made the playoffs for the first time. Momentum is trending positively (actually building something instead of a flash in the pan).

Some care more about 1 game against their rival than the bigger picture.
Some go overboard on short term success that may or may not translate to the field in a couple of years.

Why don't we just discuss it like adults instead of acting in this manner?

2019: 40 points (7 came from a blocked punt return), 448 total yards
2020: 45 points (7 came from a pick-6), 544 total yards

Texas
2024: 17 points, 461 total yards
2025: 27 points, 397 total yards

After removing a blocked punt return in 2019 and a pick-6 in 2020, Elko's defense has allowed an average of 32.25 and 462.5 total yards per game against Sarkisian's offense. We held Texas to 17 points at Kyle Field in 2024 because we forced two turnovers in the red zone and returned one of them 93 yards for a touchdown to prevent a much more lopsided blowout of 31-0 or 27-0.

I agree that we have some work to do, but we're headed in the right direction. The offense will need to show further improvement too. After scoring 0 offensive points at home in 2024, we scored 17 points on the road in 2025. I can see us beating Texas 27-24 at Kyle Field this year.

I think we absolutely have the better coach. That said, they've got some crazy deep resources, and as a program, I hate to admit it but they've have the confidence in the head to head while we are in our own heads. But I expect that latter one to change.

They absolutely had better talent in 2024. Last year, by the end of the season, I think they had a much better team than some want to give credit for and they had homefield. And we had a few guys in their own head (like Owens) that really impacted the game. I think we still had the better team and were primed to absolutely take that game over going into the half, but let it get away in the 3rd

I hate to say it, but we should wait until Mike Elko beats Steve Sarkisan on the gridiron before making ridiculous posts like these. Hopefully, we beat Texas for the first time since 2010 and at home for the first time since 2007.
