Stacy, I'm sending you a message on Facebook. If you can give me names and approximate descriptions, it will be investigated by the Red Pots and those individuals will be watched this fall.

There is a ZERO (0.000000repeating) tolerance for alcohol or unsafe horseplay at any Student Bonfire event. This includes fundraisers, OFFICIAL crew meetings, Cut Class, Cut site, Stack Site and any location you are driving from or to in conjuction with the above.

The lies that Student Bonfire does not take the students' safety as our paramount charge must be ended.

P.S. Don't tell me I don't take safety seriously. We'll have a chat about where I was on a certain night in November, the friends I lost, and my dedication to make sure that their lives were not given in vain.

Remember '99.
OC Hogs Build Bonfire!

Every time I read Texags and come across some of you snivelling, tradition hating ladies, I lose a little more hope for A&M. Some of you candy-asses clearly got lost on the way to Austin, Lubbock or Waco. Please buy a map and leave. - Buck Turgidson

Stacy, put forth your information. I think MOST Ags DO want to see Bonfire burn and will support off-campus OR on-campus. I think whatever info you have is incorrect as far as most Aggies not wanting Bonfire.

I want Bonfire and do not care if there is opposition to it.

The Titanic was a tragedy as well, yet people still float the ocean on large ships.

Bonfire can be done safely. Risk is a part of life and all you can do is mitigate it.

If there is no burn ban in effect and it's on private property I don't think the jacka$$ has any say in the matter.

All of you "it can't be done safely " people are the same ones who like the government telling what is and is not safe for you, aren't you...

Being ALIVE is inherently dangerous. You can drown in your own if you are stupid or unlucky enough. Do you propose sinks should be banned? Or perhaps people should never get out of bed to avoid risk?

Risk and danger, of all kinds are part of human experience, part of being alive. You learn to find ways to take risks with out getting hurt. You do it every day when you get in your car. No reason why bonfire can't be built safely.

I'm not making it up about people not wanting Bonfire back. There are a lot.. I think that now that everyone who was around during or near Bonfire 99 is mostly gone, the number of current students who oppose it has gone down (actually I think most current students are apathetic), but my freshman year the university was hugely divided over this.. I knew people who ended friendships over it. I've also heard a number of Redpots speak as well as others who worked on Bonfire and the VAST majority of the ones I've met say it shouldn't be brought back.

Now that doesn't mean that because some people oppose it, then it should be stopped. Those who want to see it return certainly have the right to work to bring it back, and that's great for them, but don't go around saying all Ags support it just because the Ags YOU know support it.

Stacy,

It seems to me that your focus has shifted.

I realize that resumption of Bonfire would be quite controversial, but I'm more interested in your allegations about alcohol abuse at the cut and stack site.

1. Do you indeed have firsthand information about violation of the rules that the organizers should know about?

2. Or is your indictment broader, that the organizers permit such behavior?

In either case, I'd like some specifics. If not, have you been relying on secondhand information?

3. In the absence of demonstrated workplace misconduct, how is it that you have concluded another tragedy is imminent?

Have you spoken to Will D., the engineer, or examined his plans? Do you find them lacking in some respect?

Please prove specifics.

Stacy is king of the unsubstantiated remark. I'd like to see one iota of proof to his claims on alcohol.

Also, for some historical context, most of campus was apathetic to Bonfire in 1999 - as far as it goes as a building project. Many more are/were interested in watching it burn at the Mother of All Yell Practices, and that's it.

The desire to bust ass and actually build the thing (read: show up to work more than once) has always been smaller on campus.

Bonfire was never this great campus unifier (pre-burn), and the continued promulgation of that perception is a common piece of anti-Bonfire rhetoric.

Stacy is a she, but I agree I'd like see something to back up her contention that the no-alcohol polity is "a lot of crap" and that cut and stack have "lot[s] of accidents waiting to happen."

I have contacted her via her web site and asked for specifics, either publicly or privately. No answer yet.
