It really did. I had missed the sub of Ced to bring on Bellerin, but made a big difference.

I agree with Wangus on our inability to be offensive and get shots. I think it's something that has lingered over from Emery. Arteta has seemingly shored up the defense in a way to be competitive and cohesive. But beyond some very beautiful plays we've had that start all the way from the back, we just don't seem to know how to consistently setup shot taking chances.

I don't blame it on not having a linking midfielder or creative midfielder because I see most teams finding ways to get shots off.

Either way, I'm fully onboard with Arteta and letting him figure it out.

Glad to have 3 points and that was probably the toughest match of the group stage, but we have some serious attacking issues and Leno seems to have the yips playing out of the back.
Hasn't this been the case the past two seasons? Don't know why, but seems as if it has gotten worse.

Like you said a few posts above, makes the sale of Emi disheartening. Let's hope Leno can develop this part of his game, and quickly.

Ozil is certainly still involved in the PR game...

Peacock again today?!

Yep

I'm still holding out. I'm just gonna do something else. And if I avoid spoilers be before Arsenal.com has the full replay watch it there.

I'm getting worn out by all the streaming money grabs and the European Super league talk, etc

My issue is I have no idea who is carrying the game anymore. Mostly due to laziness but c'mon.

Just watch it here

Thats probably the best lineup we have right now.

And Leno is picking up where he left off on Thursday

The adventure continues...early.

Then we get VAR'd

I guess they're saying Xhaka impeded the keeper?

Someone needs to put something more substantial on net. Schmeichel not really tested yet.
wangus12
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Zero creativity. I just don't understand how the only thing we can do it try long balls over the top
OneBlitzer
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Crap! Vardy! Crap!

Seems like teams have figured out Arteta's tactics and now we are completely toothless. Not to mention ****ed over by VAR

Everybody watching this match knew exactly what was going to happen. Leicester would be content to watch us pass the ball around the middle 3rd for 75 minutes, then toss on Vardy to counter and nab the winner.

No energy. Why is Arteta playing people out position. This was a terrible coached game

How long do you want to ignore this user?
Huge disappointment! Dropping points at home is inexcusable. Stale and uncreative offense.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
Can we resign Giroud. We keep trying to have Laca play that hold-up forward position and he just isn't very good at it.

Should have buried one of Tierney's crosses in the first half. Pathetic game from the forwards yet again

I don't understand at all why we've gone with Willian as a False 9 and then with Aubameyang as a right winger in the last two EPL games

Sure feels like we're headed in the wrong direction in solving the offensive struggles.

Why were we play Xhaka as a CB? No one else to play that position? I know some like Mustafi but he almost cost us another goal. If he's the best we've got, we're up **** creek.

They go thru every moment here, following Partey even in the pregame.

Quote:

Sound the cliche klaxon: this was a game of two halves for Arsenal and for Partey. After a busy first-half period one that was generally positive for Arsenal he was less and less frequently involved. By the end of the game, Partey had received just 44 passes. Xhaka had received 86 almost double. Xhaka made 98 passes in all, Partey just 54. Having spent 50 million on a new midfielder, Arsenal must trust him with possession.

Arsenal's build-up play became predictable, and Leicester adapted to it. Arsenal's lack of movement and invention in the final third continues to be a worry, and shows why they were also chasing a creative player to pair with Partey.

A night that started promisingly for Arsenal and Partey ultimately ended in frustration. This was mean to be a celebratory homecoming for Arsenal's new signing. Instead, it was Jamie Vardy having the party.

I'm not sure its lack of trust in Partey. Its just straight up lack of use of the middle of the field. We can simply draw a big circular track of the way the ball moved from around the field. It went from the CBs to Xhaka or Bellerin and then up either wing to Tierney/Saka or Auba. We haven't progressed anything through the middle of the pitch in over a year so they're not gonna immediately start doing until you beat it into them.

I'm not going to panic yet about Partay since it's his third game with the club. He was pretty much on his own in the second half in the middle, from what I saw.

Yeah I think it's unrealistic to expect things to change drastically in 3 games.

No idea why Arteta played PEA on the right, but beyond that my biggest head scratcher was having Xhaka play out left. Instead i would think either Saka there and Pepe on right or Saka on right and AMN in that spot. Not Xhaka. Honestly, I may have gone with Xhaka over Ceballos to start

Whatever it is, we have to figure out a system going forward that has some attacking teeth to it.

Yep. And I thought Leicester seemed perfectly content to let it happen.

It didn't only allow them to keep the box congested with defenders, but Lacazette got pulled out there a number of times because that's where the passing led him.

We'd end up with the ball on the wing and only one, or maybe zero, players in the box.

I thought we'd done a good job earlier in the year in getting bodies into the box when we'd pull defenders out wide, but it looks like Leicester figured out that if you just let them, Arsenal will play themselves into the corners.

I want to see...

------------ Laca/Eddie ---------------
PEA ---------------------- Pepe/Saka
--- Saka/Dani ----- Willian/Dani ---
--------------- Partey -------------------
Tierney - Gabi - Holding - Bellerin

Think you have a great deal more creativity and speed with that lineup

Also wouldn't mind seeing PEA slide over to ST....

---------------- PEA ---------------------
Saka ----------------------------- Pepe
-------- Dani -------- Willian ----------
--------------- Partey -------------------
Tierney - Gabi - Holding - Bellerin

How many of our guys would other teams in the current top 10 of the EPL won't?

PEA
Gabriel
Bellerin
Saka(sometime starter)
Tierney
Partey
Pep(not a consistent starter)
Nketiah(not a starter yet)

Every time Nketiah is on the pitch, he is the worst player on the pitch. The guy couldn't get a game for a championship side.

I'm more concerned with how quickly our offensive game plan became stale and something the better clubs are able to deal with without too much pain than the overall talent, at this moment.

Hoping to see ESR start tomorrow against Dundalk.

Also Martinelli apparently returned to team training today. Probably still a long way to go in terms of fitness, but glad his back to practice

If I were setting the lineup...

---------------- Eddie -------------------
Nelson --------------------------- Pepe
-------- ESR ----------- AMN ----------
--------------- El Neny ------------------
Kola --- Gabi -- Holding --- Cedric

Ideally I would prefer to see Saliba at the back but we screwed that pooch.
