As a United fan, I have some recent experience at seeing your club hem and haw as to whether they should keep the coach that won a trophy but underperformed in the league. Like United, I think they took too long to make their decision but unlike United, I think they probably made the right decision. Using a manager's cup run to a trophy to overshadow their, in Ange's case, abysmal league performance is a bit like saying a person is a financial genius because they had creditors seizing their assets and the bank was foreclosing on their house right before they won millions in the lottery. Cup runs are inherently unpredictable in Europe and in England. Way too much luck goes into winning one to use it as some sort of barometer for success. Even the best, most dominant teams lose more cup tournaments than they win.

It's pretty well-documented what it takes to pass the scrutiny, so it's madness that any multi-owner situation isn't doing what it takes to check the boxes. But in truth, even the paper-whipping does require legally giving up some control, so if this dude is an a-hole who trusts no one but himself, it's possible he's unwilling to go through the legal motions and give some power to someone else.

For a club that had won zero trophies in 118 years. Community Shield is definitely a trophy.
