Old news, but unsurprisingly, most of the players whose contracts are expiring are being released.

Probably more will leave on transfers; however, I also have a suspicion that a few players are gonna ride their contracts into the sunset even though they're no longer good enough for the first team… because they're also not good enough to find a comparable salary elsewhere.

Wrexham at Southampton in their championship debut. Up 1-0.

New signings look good and the pressing up front has been fantastic.

Adding… first half results were probably fair, but I'll go ahead and admit now that if this result holds, Wrexham will be lucky. Unfortunate injury to Moore who was fantastic in the first half, but I am happy to see Sam Smith come on.

Saints played the first half like they were an EPL relegation team, largely passing backwards and sideways… and then came out in the second half remembering that they're supposed to be favorites.

Hope the Moore injury isn't bad. He is gonna cause problems for defenders this year.

Wrexham let it get a little too easy for Southampton to progress the ball out of their half and into that 30-40 yards away from the Wrexham goal towards the end. Needed to maintain a little more pressure

That one hurts more than Mullin IMO. Many thought he'd be spared after he got a late double in the first round cup game a couple weeks ago.

But this is what happens when you get promoted three times in a row… most of the players aren't gonna magically get better to match the new level. Might end up being true for Parky as well. Way way too early to tell, but I have a suspicion top half Championship is his peak. I do hope they give him a long leash though… he deserves the whole year unless they're in relegation danger IMO.

First league win, and on the road against Millwall. Scoreline flatters Wrexham greatly as both goals were largely Millwall keeper blunders, but they did play well and deserved a draw in my opinion (despite the lopsided stats).

Good win for them today. I think Parkinson is too central a figure in this whole thing and has too much goodwill built up for them to sack him mid-season, if things go south.

It doesn't feel like that fits with the brand and the story they've been building.

It's hard to keep track, but I think it's 32.7M GBP spent and 12 new permanent signings plus a loan this window.

Puts them middle of the league in terms of player valuation according to transfermarkt. Will be interesting to see where they are in terms of wages once the sites that track them bother to update.

So Danny Ward's injury from Saturday is a dislocated elbow with ligament damage, which is a really bad injury for a GK to have.

I didn't want to discuss the negative news without knowing the extent, but Ward was down for a long time in a ton of pain. Ref actually stopped the clock, which I'd never seen in a match before. Announcer thought it was broken ribs at the time, but this is worse.

Ought to make for great drama on the show, but for the team it sucks to have yet another new signing out with injury - and this one will likely be a very long road to recovery.

Edit to add: his name was left off the league registration so he's out at least till January. I suppose that's a small mercy; the timing of this happened before deadline day. They have 3 injured players unregistered (other two are Jay Rodriguez and Ollie Rathbone) and they've actually only registered 24 out of 25 players, which leaves a spot open for one of these 3 to return if they heal.
