Awkward last minute save by the PSG guy off his knee/thigh

good save on what was an absolutely absurd penalty given.

VAR is an absolute joke. That overturn took what 6-7 minutes. 4 minutes of the center ref just standing on the field like a jackass.

I do not think it was a pen. But, neither was that terrible call on the other end.

But, we cannot keep doing this 3 plus minute reviews.

It needs to be VAR radios down to center ref. center ref goes to monitor. if he cannot definitely overturn the call in a minute, then move on.

It took way too long but to be fair, there were like 3 different big issues…Was it a penalty? Was Mbappe offsides? Was Vini Jr. offsides and affecting the play?

And the fact that the camera angles weren't the greatest for the VAR to see the whole incident. I'm sure the VAR was piecing together the whole play from several different angles.

Right 18 was good to check the offside but too far away for the foul.
High End Zone showed the foul but can't show the offside or Vini interference
Low mid had the foul at the last second
Low end zone had the foul creep in after the ball was already past him

Some of the time is on the camera operators for not having the whole sequence in it's view. It shouldn't be that difficult either, considering the play was from a dead ball free kick instead of active play.

That was just one example in a big game. But, in general, I think the way VAR is handled is terrible overall.

What we wanted: overturn egregious errors like Man City scoring while being offsides by 4 feet against Cardiff.

What we are getting: Minutes long dissection of plays of 50/50 plays that absolutely destroy the flow of the game. Fans having to wait after every goal to find out how the refs will rule it not a goal.

Yeah I agree.

A big part of the problem is having a single VAR… it makes that person feel the burden to get it right because they're on the hook. And the ref as an individual wants to try and save face and have his/her on-field call be right. So you get a 1 v. 1 situation and they're gonna just sit there and nuance it to death.

I feel like they ought to make it a small group of 2 or 3 retired refs, give them 15-30 seconds to vote and if it's not unanimous, it stands as called. And it's an automatic overturn… no more ref runs to the camera to waste more time BS. VAR calls would become a 2 or 3 unanimous v 1 situation so the 1 would always lose. It'd be easy and quick. Costly, sure, but at the highest levels they could afford to do it and it would really clean things up I think.

Yesterday's was chef's kiss to pull at your heart strings: 37 year old cancer survivor, recovering alcoholic, who battled through depression after his father's death, ties the game at the end.

Low hanging fruit right now: psg come together as a team after their superstar bails, and show us it's really about the friends you make along the way and not how much money you spent (yeah, I know, I don't believe it either but still).

That match yesterday was absolutely epic, figure I'll put on the second half today but can't imagine anything can even come close.

Champions League final tomorrow. Who you got? I'm pulling hard for PSG, since Mbappe left to chase a CL trophy at Real.

I really enjoy watching PSG play, and I'm a fan of Luis Enrique, but I'd rather see Inter win and Qatar FC lose.

I picked a good year to be on the road during the final.

But if I were watching, I'd probably hold my nose and root for PSG. Hate the ownership, of course, but I like the players and coach better and they're more fun to watch.
