Thanks for the great news!

Note both players are forwards and both are transfers - Diaz this year and Clark last year. I wonder if they started or were subs.

I also wonder if all three keepers got time in goal.

Each keeper played about 30 minutes starting with Fuller, then Defferding and Veronda. Starters were Yakel, Arreola Lavender, Campbell, Clark, Crooks, Patterson, Buchanan, Diaz, Jernigan and Hutchins. Hoang, Rupe, Landherr, Yolinsky, Storer and Cornog also played. Jernigan had a PK blocked after she was fouled in the box. Houston had a goal disallowed in the second half due to offsides.

Jernigan was a goal scoring machine in high school (6A team). Set the school record with 90 goals in her career. I have been waiting for her to break out in Aggieland but she did not get a lot of playing time.

There are usually no press releases after Spring matches so I was quite surprised to see one this morning on the Houston match (from April 19):

I don't think the portal opens until May 1 so she's really ready to leave. And have to wonder how many more?

Based on the 2 exhibitions I saw I don't think Cornog was in line to start. Yolinsky, however, was in line to play a lot.

Neither was in line to start after Spring ball. Yolinsky was young. I wish she had stayed. She likely would have been in the rotation and played. I went to a few of the home matches and I don't recall Cornog even being dressed to play (same as the past 2 years for her).

What happened after the Fall season was unusual. However, players coming and going over expected playing time is absolutely the new norm in pretty much every NCAA sport. I hope we add a few (always looking for a goal scorer).

If past is prologue both players will land well and have impact at new programs that maximize their talent. Interestingly, both are Solar players, whose alumni have not faired well at A&M, but have thrived at other programs like TCU, Texas, Alabama, etc. Solar's technical, possession oriented and play through the midfield style of play is the opposite of kickball. Boeckmann, Hayes and Geszik (who barely saw the field) all left for teams that made the tournment, playing key starting roles at each. I expect both of these players to do the same.

Geczik was a 90 minute a game player here before she got injured. She was a team captain. She missed a full season and was still recovering the second year after that, not even dressed to play in many games. I'm glad for her to get it back together at Iowa as the assumption was she was going to retire.

I hope Cornog follows a similar path and she hasn't played in almost two years either. Heck, I'm one of the few people who comment here who even wanted her in games before her injury.

Noticed a new press release this morning:

"The Texas A&M soccer team will open the 2025 season at home against former Big 12 foe Baylor, head coach G Guerrieri announced Friday. The match is set for Thursday, August 14 at Ellis Field with kickoff time yet to be determined."

has anyone else noticed a pattern with how this program treats players when they return from injury?

geczik--already noted
hayes--leads team in scoring as soph, high ankle sprain in spring, fall junior yr ends up splitting time w/ wilkenson
james--played great ball in spring 2024 return, relegated to part-time role in fall before 2nd injury
leb--split time in midfield pre-injury; barely in rotation upon return
verona--starting keeper last fall; misses year due to injury; currently 3rd string
cornog--starter & main player after transferring from vandy; comes back this spring and barely plays as previously noted
torn--missed freshman; didn't play a minute this spring
yolinsky--highly touted 4 star recruit; misses freshman year, brought her off the bench this spring
hoang--returned for few springs games, saw limited mins, lets keep an eye on her usage this fall
