I think there is a chance that Arteta is influencing certain aspects of our tactics but unless he is completely lying to the media, I think many of our offensive failings have been due to injuries and the players not executing (ie MO's unwillingness to take a risky pass, Saka bringing the attack to a crawl every time he touches the ball).

Personally think that Mikel's biggest shortcoming is his inability to properly rotate. I think that has 100% caused several of our injuries and the reason why we have a habit of blowing late season games we shouldn't (starters are hurt or gassed). Until he figures that out we are gonna have a hard time finishing strong.

Overall in the first half, I'm not sure either team was "better" although they certainly had the best chance.

Can we all take a moment to marvel at how bad that short free kick was though?

Overall we weren't bad we just had some sloppy/lazy/gassed moments and Sporting had a few really good defensive plays to prevent solid opportunities from us.

Yep. It also does not help that the Ref has let the game get really rough so sporting is going in very aggressively to every challenge.

Its gonna take some of the players having to make something special. They're so inside their own heads about bottling it that they are actually bringing it to fruition. Someone has to be a leader and say enough and show it on the damn field

Survive and advance. Anything is possible. Back end was more organized today similar to what we've seen all season. Midfield was better. Maybe Saka returns for the semi-final. Havertz and VG are capable of big days.
Not expecting to win a beauty contest but optimistic we can advance.

I'll also add in that this team is lacking in confidence in a bad way, but its also the team the slapped Atleti around back in October like it was nothing and also took care of Bayern. The talent is there if they can get some of the injured players back and somebody rounds into form

I have a sneaking suspicion crushing City would be an instant injection of the swagger and confidence we've lost over the past few months.

Have a big day, change the narrative, and start rolling again. As multiple people have said, getting a few injured players back can't hurt either.

I'm here for it. COYG!!!!

I admit I didn't watch too closely as I had both games on multi view while getting a little work done. But it generally seemed like we were much better than over the weekend. Back line was better, midfield was better.

It's just astounding how little fun they seem to be having right now. Feels like they need a training session where they just go out and have some fun for a day.
