Im just tired of watching a team that is afraid to play through the middle of the pitch

That's where I am. Our midfield has no balls at all.

I am tired of watching them make the stupid easy pass on the offensive end. If I can see it from a thousand miles away, the defense knows it is coming. Sometimes it is the right play, but have some creativity. Try something up the middle. Goodness, going all the way right, it not working, so hitting it back to the center back and him playing it all the way left, then reverse is a miserable plan. And that seems all we have.

Musah is far and away the best midfield ball progressor in the pool.

LDLT showed some signs of being something similar early on, but we haven't seen as much of that recently. It's probably a lot easier when you have players like Weah and Pulisic who hold width and a guy like Adams, who hasn't been available recently, to cover for you.

For sure, which makes it tougher to not have our full pool of players available to get them some sort of chemistry together. Figure out the best 11, figure out multiple best 11s really to play against different teams

We'll see, Im not as down on the team as some others ( I dont even think they are wrong to be, Im just not)... but at this point we are not really going to know how are team is going to play when the World Cup starts.

I'm right there with you. I'm not down on the top 15ish guys, we just haven't seen them all play together in over a year. And everybody is frustrated that we won't see them play together before the World Cup.

Alexi Lalas' commentary at the end of the Portugal v. Spain match was harsh about US players skipping the gold cup, echoing Dempsey and Donavan.

Everything they said made sense and was relevant given CR7's post-match comments about playing for Portugal.

Guys in Europe will crawl across broken glass to play for their country in any competitive match. It's completely reasonable to be frustrated with guys in our country who don't feel the same way.

I agree. I also think part of the reason our top players feel like they can't be bothered is that there is very little competition that is truly pushing them right now. There seems to be such a fall off after our top 5-10 players. I don't think anyone that played on Saturday did anything to warrant our starters being concerned that they may not make the world cup team. They feel no pressure and are totally complacent

It's really hard to blame our guys for not having the same culture.

Our young guys will walk on broken glass to get a cap.

But the delta between Pulisic and McGlynn is astronomical.

In the gold cup you play what 4 games against crap teams. Then you play 2 games against okay teams that will foul the crap out of you. The CONCACAF refs refuse to protect players especially americans. No way Ronaldo would sign up to play against Costa Rica and Panama with red card offenses getting yellow cards and yellow card offenses not even blown for fouls.

Poor player protection is the real reason I would never fault an American for not playing in the gold cup.

Solid point. They can't stop Pulisic and they don't even try.

I'm just waiting to hear something revolutionary from the US Soccer Federation. Just seems like the growth of stateside soccer is evolving at a snail's pace sometimes. They say a lot, but seems like minimal movement at the end of the day, at least that's what I glean from a few close buddies with sons and daughters trying to navigate the elite middle school to high school ranks.
