Baylors got some nice attacking pieces. They won't finish 10th or whatever in the Big 12. They will make some noise. Have a touch of perspective after game one - it could have been worse.

For anyone that laughed when I put Baylor's coach on the Hot List in the coaching thread last season..... This is why. She's got a good system and they play attractive soccer. She will need time to find players but they're going to be contenders in that conference more often than not.

It's not just a perspective after one game, it's the decline of a program that's seen us miss the tournament twice in 3 years, not finished ranked in 4 years, not win more than 3 conference games since 2020, recruit at a very poor level, watch all the in state talent go elsewhere, have a mass exodus of your entire starting lineup that's laughed about among everyone outside this program, and oh yeah we haven't won a match in 7 straight games. This was an awful Baylor team that's not going to make the tournament again.

We have the highest paid coach in the entire NCAA… and that coach just told the entire media that his 10 transfers who left the program left for easier playing time and he also said this team is so much more in shape than last years team. He also told the media why would people judge us over girls that got 10th being gone… classy as they come

This isn't accurate. We missed the tourney in 2024 but made it in 2022 and 2023.

Lets get these talking points tightened up and accurate. I perhaps would have understood such a lapse during the exhibition season, but we are playing for real now.

Apologies it was 2021 where we had a losing record and 2022 we squeaked in near the bottom and got walloped by tu in round 1

Regarding the transfers:
1). Shea O'Rorke scored 2 goals in TN's victory over UNC
2). Leb, Olinsky and Cornog all played meaningful minutes in TCU victory over Pepperdine
3). Matula and Armenia start for Vandy who is a favorite to win the SEC. Armenta scored a goal this evening
4). Calzada is starting at left back for Notre Dame but was injured for today's match

We may discover that last year's team was actually loaded with talent.

I got in trouble in the other thread for mentioning how it awesome Yolinsky scored! 5 minutes into the game she got her first goal of her collegiate career. After missing all of last year that was cool to see. Same for O'Rourke, I was so excited when she came in and it hurt to see her have to miss the entire year as well. Then first game back and she scored twice against the number 1 team in the country, that's amazing. Didn't know Armenta scored but wow lol! Pregame mentioned that Calzada should be back pretty soon! She was in some shades jumping around on the sidelines for Notre Dame lol! Grace Ivey started for Auburn as well.

Forgot to mention Grace. She is a real talent and will have impact at Auburn.

O'Rourke was a real difference maker. She had a great Spring after her transfer in to A&M. Her injury at the end of the Spring season was pretty devastating to our Fall campaign. So, she never actually played a "real" game here. But those on the team had great respect for her. She was just different in front of the goal given her combination of size and quickness. She could control the ball in that dangerous spot and the ball couldn't be taken from her.

Thank you Gap, TS13 and others for your postings and insight. I don't post much but follow the soccer season regularly and appreciate this forum very much.

Like many I am frustrated with the condition of our program. Similar to other Aggie sports, doing the least with the most. While I am hopeful for success, at the very least maybe this season will create change that is needed.

Thanks again for the good reading!

This is the main point. And it's not that we "may" discover those players were talented, across the roster, it's that we have eyes and we know they were.

Some on this board get very angry when we use our eyes and think for ourselves. I'm not going to just sit back and take at face value coaches saying those players who left were no good. That's false. They're very good players. They've proved it before and they proved it again yesterday, for teams that are better than the Ags and against teams that are better than the Ags.

Now, will the new crop turn out to be good, too? I sure hope so. But they absolutely did not live up to the hype that they're super fit and are going to overwhelm opponents with waves of talent and fitness. They faded badly in the second half last night, at home, in front of a good crowd, against a meh team. The defender that coaches said they brought in because she was allegedly the best defender in the transfer portal got owned by the Baylor player who wanted that ball more. That was the reason for the goal--lack of desire to hold off that defender and clear a ball from your own six. My eyes tell me what's true--not pre-game hype. I hope they get better going forward.

What concerns me is that, while the conference as a whole is very young and inexperienced playing together. Most of these other programs are littered with top ten recruiting classes, they brought in veteran transfers from winning programs, or they brought in international talent to elevate their rosters. So you know most of them will begin to gel. They have the coaching and they have depth. We are an entirely new team built off low tier mid major schools and if they come from power 4 schools, they were some of the worst teams in the country. Some of the RPI's of our transfers previous power 4 schools 33, 143, 161, 171. The other schools 110, 112, 171, 206, 216, 223, 279. We we forced to grab what we could after so many girls left the program. Nobody on this roster knows how to win, much less at an SEC level, the coach doesn't know how anymore either.

Keep in mind that women's sports here at A&M do not get much money so we can't offer much to get players. Just the facts. And I'm not saying our girls are bad. I watched them play last night and there is definitely work to do, but I see their talents and enthusiasm. Tread lightly, people.
