So sorry to hear that. Always tough to go out when it's not on your terms.

Ghost of Andrew Eaton said:

My kid was concussed on Saturday and unfortunately that is it for her. We told her no more if she got another concussion after the last time and it's her senior year. Very tough break but she understands. Unfortunately for her, life after soccer started sooner than she anticipated.

That sucks, but after watching a girl lay on the field for several minutes after a header this past weekend it sounds like you collectively made the right decision.

I appreciate it. She's a mess right now emotionally but we're working through it.

I watched the CR/Atascosita match and Atascosita is good.

No idea what we did to earn that (we played two not very good teams) but I'll take it. Or maybe it's factoring in our win against PNG last weekend?.

What does Texags think halfway through most district play for the top teams in girls soccer in Texas. I'll throw out my own opinions but would love others feedback:

DFW:
Southlake
Coppell
Guyer
Marcus

Austin/SA:
Reagan
Dripping Springs
Westlake
Vandy

Houston:
Kingwood
Atasocita
Stratford
Katy Jordan

Could get some weird results this week/weekend with ECNL Dallas on the clock.

The consensus is that Southlake is probably the best team in the state but we know that getting out of DFW in the playoffs is difficult.

Most people are picking Kingwood and Summer Creek to make it out of Houston. Word is that Stratford and Ridge Point are down from their usual standard.

Anyone know what happened to Lethal Enforcer? Any evidence of its existence has been erased.

Good question. I just tried to pull them up as well and got the dreaded spinning wheel on the X machine. Hacked would be my guess?

Very strange!! I found one @state18787 but this has a bunch of spam links. The real handle should be @txhssoc but nothing there

Sunnyvale girls over Frisco Panther Creek 3-0.

I took a break from reffing HS this season. Maybe I operated in my own little bubble the last few years but the pool of referees must be woeful right now. I'm not sure I'd have given the center referee a JV girls district game whistle when I was more involved, and he's out there doing a fairly competitive PLAYOFF match.

Saw him standing with his arms crossed over his chest watching play happen around him at 2-0 with 15 minutes left. Sad...

We have been blessed all year with good officiating even though we played several games with just two. But the effort put forward by our referees has been solid.

We had one major exception to that in a game in Waco where one of the two referees didn't know what was going on. He was at least 70, a little bit overweight, had on a big kneebrace, and couldn't run. In 80 minutes he made one call on his own. The girls would just figure out on their own who the ball went out on, whether a play was a foul, etc. When I ball went out of bounds he would wait for the first girl who wanted to throw the ball in and then point his flag that way. And of course girls on both teams started taking advantage of it. One girl dribbled the ball out of bounds then put it down at the flag for her own corner kick. We had a girl camping 15 yards offsides and getting away with it. Fortunately both teams played a relatively clean game physically because it could have gotten out of hand fast.

I have no idea how he got out there other than without him the game couldn't be played. We figured he was a baseball umpire that at some point in life got a cert for soccer but I am not sure how that works. Our girls were very gracious and all shook his hand and thanked him when it ended. They do that anyway, but I think they realized this was a different situation.

We do

Won 3-0 against Nederland but it was not close. I think they had two corners and that was the extent of the danger. I don't think they had a single shot on goal. Their goalie was tall and very athletic and had a ton of saves. Could have easily been 6-0 or 7-0 without that goalie.

We play Montgomery Tuesday, which we should win, and if we advance would play Victoria West or Liberal Arts & Science Academy - Austin Soccer and I think we would be favored against either.

Running on fumes this morning. The 5:30 game before ours was 45 minutes late because refs were stuck in traffic, and then it went all the way to PKs. So, our 7:30 game didn't start until almost 9:15. Got home at midnight.

We won 5-0 with five different goal scorers (including an insane olimpico from our attacking mid) and dominated other than a few runs and corners. I thought the ref was a little aggressive with the whistle at times but a clean game. Felt like we were just more physical and they kept falling down

Next up is Liberal Arts & Science Academy - Austin, which I've never heard of. They have a winning record and some sizable district wins it looks like, but have won on PKs and then 1-0 in the first two rounds. I would think we'll be favored, but one game at a time.

Bonus was that the boys game before us (College Station v. Angleton) was hella fun to watch. College Station banged one off the bar with under 2 minutes in regulation and then another one off the post in overtime. I was rooting for CS, because (1) Gig'em!, (2) Angleton is from our district and the parents at the girls games are always annoying, and (3) one of the parents had a loud horn. I hate outside noise makers and instantly root against any team that uses them.

Whelp...four years of high school soccer came to a close for my daughter last night. She's sad and relieved and tired and all the feels in between. She's been through three coaches in four years, but the team managed to get into the playoffs all four years of her career and to the area round the last three. They have never been an elite team like some that I read about on this thread, but she put her heart into every game and I loved every minute of it.

Seven total high school seasons if you count the overlap with my son. The good, the bad, the ugly (like last night)...but I wouldn't trade any of it. Good luck to everyone who is still alive and heading to the next round! Enjoy the ride with your kid...it goes quickly.

And if anyone needs a stadium chair, I've got one that is now officially retired...

Still alive!

Daughter's team won their first district, bi-district, and now Area this year at the school since moving up to 5a. Last season was so rough for multiple reasons that my daughter even kicked around quitting. And we started this year getting blown out 5-0 by a local rival. But they stuck together and have now taken their program further than ever before. I could not be more proud of her and her teammates. She has absolutely played her heart out every game this year. On to Regionals!

Hope she gets a few weeks off before select starts.

Opposite end over here. We had a mercy rule after 60 minutes. It was pretty brutal for the losing team but hopefully my daughter's team can keep their scoring boots on in the next round.

Some interesting results last night. The 6A D2 bracket is loaded with teams - Guyer, SLC, Prosper, Vandegrift, Drip, Forney, Wylie East, Stratford, Kingwood & Tompkins. Winner of Guyer/SLC/Prosper region is definitely the favorite but any of those other teams can hang in a single game.
Bull Meachem

I'm gonna go with Stratford, Southlake, Forney, and Vandergrift in 6A Div2.

Just found out that one of our better girls is missing our Regional game tonight because she had a previous commitment-an ID camp at UTEP. What a joke. She is a sophomore too and can't even talk recruiting with coaches yet.

Two thoughts

1. I can't imagine being a parent and allowing my daughter to abandon my team in the middle of the playoffs. Thats some seriously misplaced priorities. She is already not the most popular kid on the team and my guess is she has played her last game for our school. I doubt the coach lets her come back and if she does the girls are going to hate her. It's just trash.

2. I don't know the UTEP coach but every coach we have talked to or listened to, from D1 to D3, through my own daughters recruiting experience would hands down tell her she is making a big mistake and should play with her school. I have no doubt in the social media world everyone will find out she did this and it's going to be a big black eye for her.

The sad thing is her dad is a teacher/assistant baseball coach at another nearby school and is either encouraging it or allowing it. He went to Tarleton and am pretty sure is an A&M fan. That's definitely not the guy I want coaching my son.

Im not sure she is even a D1 player but who knows. She is a good player for sure but definitely not our only one and we have already won big games without her this year. Hoping it is addition by subtraction tonight. If this was football we are already three touchdown underdogs.

Let's go!!!

Edit to add- daughter told me on the way out the door that the girl was saying it in the locker room yesterday. She is known to say things. But coach hasnt said anything so we will see what her parents do.

Yeah I can't imagine how they think that would be a good idea. Especially with the number of ID camps these days. There will be another chance to get seen.

It's been said time and again that HS soccer doesn't get you recruited, but I think it can definitely get you un-recruited. A couple girls on our team are talking about not coming back (because of our coach). One of them wants to play in college! We all advised her against it. We told her to imagine she's in talks with a college coach and they ask why you decided to quite HS soccer? You don't think a coach is going to question if you quit on a commitment why you wouldn't quit on them?

Good luck to everyone tonight!

Side note: Our club coach was the head women's coach at UTEP for almost 20 years.

Club soccer gets you to college, high school gets you ready for college soccer. Or that is what I've been told by a number of girls that play college soccer. Yes, the level of games aren't always the toughest but the grind and competition for playing time is college-like.

Are ID camps a scam?

Stratford was under pressure all night long from Kingwood. They had their chances though but losing their DM hurt them.

Yes and no. They are a necessary evil for kids that are not blue chip recruits that are obvious D1 power 4 recruits. Kids need to self recruit if they want to play past high school and this is a way to be seen. My daughter went to a couple of DII camps over winter break. The coaches were pretty consistent in the message that the where finishing their 26 classes, working on their 27 classes and wouldn't even start looking at 28 until this summer. They work on much different calendars than the power 4 schools and even the mid-majors.

It's a big deal for all D1 recruits, not just power 4. Maybe a bigger deal for, say, kids that end up at Tarleton than TCU.

On to regional finals!!! 5-3 victory over LASA-Austin.

It was a great game and felt like a character builder. Going in we felt like as long as we played our game we should win. Well… We went down 0-1 in the first minute. Just no pressure. Let them pass it around and put it in. Then went down 0-2 in the 36th minute. Again not enough stepping to the ball and a great shot placement.

Then we scored a long shot in the 39th minute and that lit a fire. We came out a different team the second half and rattled off three more to go up 4-2. They got one back to make it 4-3 but we again kept our head and got it right back to a two goal lead, 5-3.

It was a tremendous gut check to get punched in the mouth like that and see how we would respond. A stressful game but a great win!!!

Our girls busted out last night to a team that was far superior. Thats ok. We played as well and as hard as we could and never quit and kept it closer than some expected. We played the best soccer of the year in the playoffs and went further than we ever have since bumping up to 5a. The team we played was first class all the way from coaches to fans to players. I hope they win State. The referees were also very good.

Lots and lots of tears. I told my son on the way home that his sister and teammates weren't crying because they lost. That team would be almost impossible for us to beat. They were crying because they would never play together as a team again.

Great season. Time for a couple of weeks off before club starts up. Cannot believe my daughter will be a senior next year.

We were knocked out earlier and there were lots of tears after the game. But on the bus ride back home they were singing together and giggling like the kids they are. They reminded me that kids are usually more resilient than their parents, especially the athletes.

My daughter's four years are over with and it sucks. It seems like it flew by but I'm looking forward to all these girls accomplish.

Daughter's team advanced 5-1 over Athens. They're in unknown territory now. Her school has never advanced to a regional round in it's history and now they're in the Regional Final. Next game will be very difficult. Hoping she enjoys it and remembers the journey.
