Unknown territory for all the girls on our team as well. We reached the regional finals in 2021 but the seniors were in 8th grade then.

We play Lake Creek and it should be a really tough game. In the MaxPreps Texas 5A rankings they are 26 and we are 27. We played them the second scrimmage of the year and lost 0-3 at home., but at no point did I think we couldn't hang with them. Their first goal was a PK on a very dumb foul by a girl new to our backline. The last goal was literally with under 10 seconds left and was a little bush league (IMHO). Our girls assumed they were running the clock out and they pounced. Play to the whistle an all but also a little agro for a scrimmage. On top of that we were missing our attacking mid that game who is a first team all-region ECNL player. All that, coupled with overall team growth, and I think it should be a great game.

We played Lake Creek this year and I was impressed. We struggled in the first half but played much better after "figuring out" our formation. They move well and possess the ball well. Their keeper is one of the better ones in the state and she keeps them in games. Good luck.

Semi related since both teams have a number of girls from HTX. Just saw this on Instagram.

HTX GA pretty much IS HTX North. There are a very small number of girls that they draw from the south. So it will be interesting to see how they do it. If they were smart they would have HTX North be based out of The Woodlands and then HTX GA be based out of Aveva and effectively be a South based team. HTX has long given the South the shaft as far as resources and games. The post quotes that it is driven by their inaugural Aspire season but the South and Norrh GA2 teams are pretty even in the standings:

U13 - South in 2nd, North in 4th
U14 - North in 2nd, South in 3rd
U15 - North in 1st, South in 6th
U16 - North in 1st, South in 3rd
U17 - North in 4th, South in 5th
U19 - South in 1st, North in 3rd

I'm confused. HTX has had a number of GA teams out of the Woodlands for a long while now. What does this mean?

They have only had one GA team for each age group and that covers the entire city. The level below that (GA Aspire, formerly GA2) has had one team for the north and one team for the south for about 5 years or so (before that it was one team for the city as well).

This announcement means they will now have two teams in the GA (the highest level). No details on how they will operate though.

Thanks and good for them. Does HTX Girls have dreams of going ECNL like their boys?

Daughter's team came from behind at 2-1 to win. They were losing with 30 minutes left and she had a big goal line clearance to keep it 2-1. Ref called a pk that we scored with 12 minutes left to tie it up. Then, we had a freshman hit a shot from outside the box off the crossbar and down into the goal with 20 seconds left to win the game 3-2.

Regional champs and moving on to the State Semifinals.

Wish I could say the same... we ran out of time and lost 2-4 against Lake Creek.

We went down 0-2 in the first 20 and I was scared it was over, but we battled back to make it 2-2. Then they had one of those annoying corners where we defended the initial attack and then the ball just seemed to bounce around forever until one of them poked it in. 2-3 at half.

There was a big wind and we got it at our back the second half. We had lots of chances and just couldn't get it in. My daughter had a good run and chance that the goalie just punched out for a corner.

Then with less than 10 mins left they got a PK, which I thought was crap. Our girl came from behind and the side a bit on the tackle but got ball. They scored and went up 2-4. I was not a fan of making that call in a close regional championship. It effectively ended the game when it should have been an exciting finish.

This one stung because we felt like on an given day we could beat that team. They were very good but we went toe to toe with them. Tough way to end. (It will always be a 2-3 loss in my mind.)

One side note: The field we played at was odd. The previous three rounds, like our home field, had the goal at the end of the endzone, a 120 yd field, so the goal crossbar is directly under the field goal bar. This field (despite having TONS of room behind each endzone) has the goals in the middle of the endzone, so a 110 yard field. This was annoying because the goal line was a thin black like that was not easy to see that went directly through the middle of the endzone and the writing in the endzone. Numerous times girls from both teams would make runs and just dribble out of bound thinking the thick white line at the end was the goal line. Though minor, it was a frustrating wrinkle for a regional final.

District 23 - 6A (Humble ISD) is the "SEC Football" of high school soccer this year. Atascocita & Summer Creek boys each playing in Div.1&2 6A final games. Kingwood girls playing in 6A finals and Summer Creek girls missed making finals in shoot out to Round Rock Perfect example of competition making all teams better.

Both teams were fun to watch. The keeper for SC girls is incredible and Kingwood is probably the best team from the region. The Kingwood portion of the bracket was by far the toughest while the other side was pretty weak. Just the way the it fell.

Ok. My excitement has waned a tiny bit and we've finished with Dallas Cup. Sunnyvale plays Thursday at 4pm vs. Wimberley. We're truly in unchartered territory and grateful the season has gone the way it has. But the girls aren't finished. They want to win it all, of course. They're excited for the trip and the community is behind them completely.

This team beat a few strong teams on the way.
Panther Creek was very competitive, just couldn't score on our defense.
Pinkston was over-matched but still had players that could compete.
Athens had 3 really good players but not enough around the field to make it a game.
Aubrey was th etoughest team. I heard they had an SEC commit and a Big 12 commit playing, but a couple of other D1 recruits. Not sure which players there were but you could tell.
Godley tried to play a possession game and the press wore them down.

Anyone seen Wimberley? I know they've had strong teams in the past and lost in the final last season. What can we expect?

I watched the first twenty of their game against HJ. They possess the ball well and their movement is some of the best you'll see. Their attack mostly came from their right side in what I believe was a 4-3-3.

Daughter went to the 4a final today going for her friends at Salado. Lost 2-1 in a heartbreaker. An own goal and apparently a blown handball call in the last minute. And they showed it on the big screen which made it worse.

Salado has won senior though. They are going to dominate next year.

Edit to add- the handball was closer than it was described to me. Feet in the box which obviously doesn't matter but hand was very close to the line. It was an inch or two either way.

Own goal was a great cross and not the fault of the defender. Freshman goalie who is a phenomenal talentcould have had the cross but it would have been a veteran play. Ball hit the defender as momentum took them all into the goal. Tough play.

Sunnyvale lost 3-1 this afternoon. It was an amazing season. They just couldn't get it done today. Wimberley wasn't too overwhelming but they were really big across all 3 levels and especially at GK.

I'm super proud of her and the team.

My son is a sophomore at Summer Creek and until recently played soccer. The parents here knew for quite a while that we have a lot of quality depth between the sophomore and Junior class so we thought NEXT year would be huge. They are a year early and should be able to backfill the departing seniors that are key contributors.

For the girls, my understanding is four of their key players missed the semifinal game because of a club commitment. They had to rely on girls that had played JV the entire year just to have bodies

It was a pretty decent game, minus all the time the ball spent in the air. The Salado goal and first Celina goal were impressive as hell but Celina was the better team. I hate that it was decided by an own goal but hey, I'm an Arsenal fan so what can I say?

Yea my daughter said Celina dominated most of the game and no doubt earned the win. I feel terrible for the girl that got the own goal. I've known her since middle school and she and my daughter played together for a few years. Senior too. But there is really nothing that she could do about it. I doubt that she could have avoided the ball even if she wanted to and the attacker behind her would have scored. It all happened two or three yards from the goal line. My daughter said she was pretty broken up when the game was over and she just hugged her and told her she is awesome and loved her. Hopefully when she sees the replay she will feel better about it. The goalie will learn from it too.

Edit to add- I haven't seen the Celina player's goal, but the Salado goal was the kind of goal that State champion contenders make. The pass to the striker was out of this world.

Yeah, it was just a bad luck play and what happens when young defenders are facing the wrong way. Maybe the goalie should have gotten to it but these are teenagers and sometimes they act like it. Great game either way and Salado should be back next year.

I was at the game. It was a brutal way to end the game. Handball was clearly 3 yards inside the penalty box and the player cleared the ball while still in the box when the ref called the hand ball but said she was 1 yard outside of the box.

The cross was a thing of beauty. The goalie had to make a split second decision and it was an own goal. You tell that defender was trying to turn her leg to clear it but her momentum had her going into the net.

Sad that there had to be a loser because both teams played their hearts out.
