Seeing a TON of Xhaka to Chelsea smoke

Hate to see it but never fault a player for making a move to a better side.

I love the guy but I think this says more about the issues going on with Chelsea.

Just goes to show again that we don't really help him by putting him on an island by himself way out to the far left

Aston Villa have come out and said it has to be at least 130m for Morgan Rogers so hopefully we walk away from that. He isn't worth anywhere close to it. Far to inconsistent for that to happen.

Man City have yet again ****ed up the market by pay 120m for Anderson who has had one good season (yes, I know he's massively talented) in the PL. I don't blame Villa for demanded at least 130 for Rogers, but we have now jumped the shark in player valuation. Teams are demanding 100+ for above average players. At this point, only PSG and Man City are going to be able to sign players. I think this might go as far to change how players sign contracts by either requesting affordable release clauses or max 3 year deals. Players and their agents really don't like being held hostage (even if they did sign the contract) and its simply not sustainable for every average player to be worth what teams are demanding now.

Top 5 is a HUGE stretch in my opinion. Not sure he would be top 5 on our team when everyone is fit.

With this current market, I think I'd rather role the dice on affordable options with upside. Think I would also keep Marti and see if I could adjust tactics a bit to unlock his strengths.

lol at top 5 in the PL after one pretty good season (that he slowed down at the end of)

Agree with this. When he's on, he's really freaking on. The question is if Arteta can bend his tactics to that degree. I'm a bit skeptical that he could, honestly, but the man just led us to the PL title so it's kinda hard to be too critical.

Am I too crazy for thinking that maybe one of those Moroccan wingers would be a good try? I really liked the pace they were flashing last night.

Can he.... yes. Will he.... IDK. We've shown the ability to produce more offensively but our tactics seem to swing between offensive OR defensive but not both. We need to figure out how to be a top defense but also produce more goals. Personally think the answer is quicker, more direct counter attacks rather than slowing down and dominating possession. After we score a couple we can slow things down and kill them with possession. Think that plays heavily into Marti & VG's strengths.

As far as budget options at W.....Think Tzolis has a lot of potential. Seems to be a late bloomer but has had near 1 G+A/90 for the last 3 seasons. Granted that was in lesser leagues but still notable. After him I would be looking at Godts from Ajax, Nusa from Leipzig, Minteh from Brighton, Schjelderup from Benfica, Jesus Rodriguez from Como or maybe even Tillman from Leverkusen.

I wonder if the EPL with take the world cup overreaction to touching the keeper on a corner. The keeper should have no more or less protection than any other player on a corner.

With that said obstruction when it comes to corners is a tough rule to manage for keepers. Unlike a normal player the keeper may be moving to be in position to make a save as apposed to moving to claim the ball. what is obstruction in that context. Giving the keeper unlimited free movement is too far IMO but intentionally moving to block the keeper when not within reasonable playing distance of the ball probably should be a foul.

The disallowed German goal was BS. If you watch the replay in slow-mo the Paraguay GK hits the German player in the junk. That's why he is "draped" over the GK.

I'm expecting a crackdown on corners, but we don't mess with the keeper near as much as people think we do

agreed. There was one angle that made it look like a foul. My gut is that was the only angle they showed the on field ref.

Same. I just justify it by saying to myself that I'm really just happy for Odegaard and he's the lucky beneficiary of that.

That being said, I'm loving the Norwegian fans and the energy. I love the Viking row after a win with the team. Is it cheesy, sure, but dammit this is a game and it's supposed to be fun. I hope they beat Brazil but it ain't likely.

I want England out as soon as possible. A shame it didn't happen today to a Cinderella rather than having to look to Mexico to do it
