First match of the season is home to Coventry City.

All in all, another tough start to the season. Coventry is nice, but away to Villa, Sunderland and Brighton in the first 5 matches is tough. Especially with the major possibility that we will be missing key players due to injuries and world cup fatigue. Everything else is spread fairly even, but another tough run at the end of January with Newcastle, City and Liverpool across 2 weeks (and probably a CL fixture in there as well).

Sheesh us getting a tough first 5 is the norm now. Toss in Chelsea at home and it makes for a real tough start.

It's wild to think that at one point he was clearly our best or second best player on the team. It's not a knock on him but damn our roster was awful.

Yep. He was good for us when fit but Arteta never really wanted to play him. He did not fit into the Arteta system.

So the JA for VG + cash was premature but realistic. I'm torn. Like JA but prefer him at LW vs ST. I like having a bigger, stronger, physical 9. Would rather not go back to a false 9 setup.

100% agree. Maybe Arteta is seeing something but I don't see Rogers as a LW and he seems like a younger Eze as a 10. I still don't think Eze was a good buy for our system. Really not liking the idea of 100m for Rogers.

I think we have to be clear eyed that Rice and Odegaard is not the pairing we need to move the attack to the next level. And that Eze probably isn't quite good enough. So, while I am positive we will grossly overpay, what better options do we have to try to tilt our midfield setup to something more potent?

He can help on the left wing and also slot in that left 8 spot, to allow Odegaard to play deeper and allow us to not run Rice and Zubimendi into the ground. And probably play some right 8 or allow for a more fluid system where the two 8s can interchange.

Again, I agree this sounds like we're headed into overpayment territory but it doesn't seem like we have other realistic options emerging.

Saka screamed for the ball quickly and I hate to say Rice passes it sideways.
Pace is so important. Thierry mentioned this.
Bukayo had the best shot on goal.
When he gets the ball quickly and moving, he is a big threat. The slow methodical attack has to inhibit his attacking ability.

My take..... Atleti know they are unlikely to hold onto JA and they absolutely do not wants him in Spain. Maybe we already balked at a VG for JA swap? I still think Jesus + Marti + cash would be beneficial to both teams if we can convince Julian to play LW atleast part of the time. I would be FAR more excited about Alvarez than Rogers at LW.

Ethan Nwaneri is gone..... Seeing reports that his younger brother has rejected a renewed scholarship citing pathway and a broken down relationship between the club and his parents.

More.... Ben Jacobs saying that when he (Ethan) re-signed he was concerned about his path. Supposedly we promised minutes at RW & AM so he re-upped. The push for a loan was based on frustration over a lack of minutes and Ben thinks he will leave because we "broke our promise".
