It's hard to tell because of the camera angle, but it looked like #26 was offsides. He wasn't the guy who scored, he was the guy who made the first attempt.

Not on the final shot, but on a pass, yes he was off sides. Oh well, doesn't matter. TUR goes home as not a total embarrassment to their country. Had high expectations coming into this WC.

Because we skipped the first 2-3 minutes while Trusty was down injured.

The number they show on the board is always considered the minimum. Ref can always add more

No one really knows how long a soccer game goes. The injury did occur right at the +7 though, so not crazy.

Soccer needs to have 3 refs out there. It's stupid to only have one. Even basketball has 3, and the court is about 1/5 the size.

Because for the first 2 minutes of that extra 7, one of our players was injured and play was stopped. So that rightfully got tacked on.

The game ends when the ref says. The clock is just a suggestion. It's a charming quirk of the beautiful game

Final match assessment:

Not much to take away regarding the US team since we played a bunch of subs most of the match.

Ref crew sucked donkey balls.

They count stoppages during the extra time and can add on additional time from that at the ref's discretion.

Ultimately though that ending was more about the unwritten rule that you don't call a game in the middle of a goal scoring opportunity. The game probably should have been called before that last throw in for Turkey though.

They also usually let a team finish an attack before calling the game.

I imagine the main resistance to this is that offenses already move slow as molasses thanks to the offsides rules and nobody wants 2 more passive defenders blocking lanes out there.

Until they move to drone refs I don't see the issue ever getting fixed.
