Agreed it's likely rigged. But how do we explain the fact that they would have never been in the lottery if not for the Kyrie and AD injuries? Makes it seem like it was rigged after the fact and not initially when the trade was made. I think Nico is just that dumb and the nba decided it needed to do something so as not to completely lose the 4th largest market.

Dumont has to be smart enough to realize HE is the one that got literally handed a get out of jail free card.

If you believe the trade was Luka for the #1 pick, then I think it would make sense that the guarantee from the NBA was the #1 pick next time the Mavs are in the lottery. This was probably expected to be a few years down the road, and would have allowed the Mavs to bridge the years post AD/Kyrie when they only have a few scattered picks with lottery protections. But then instead everybody got hurt and they got the return end of the deal this year.

A team's 25 yr old generational talent gets traded for scraps to the largest market to replace the soon-to-be retiring 40 yr old generational talent. After universal uproar, said team then miraculously defies the 1.8% odds and lands the first overall pick.

Yeah, I don't think it was rigged before the trade. That was just Nico being a moron. There's not a lot of ways to control who gets into the lottery. The lottery has always been rigged, though. Always believed it. Always will.

To the people willing to defend Nico, my question is, if it were rigged was calling the guy that took you to the finals and got you the first pick a fat, lazy, drunk bum necessary in the process?

Free agents pay attention to how teams treat players. That circus did not help the Mavs' pitch.

Maybe cooper will come out and say he doesn't trust Nico and doesn't want to go to mavs if he's there bc he doesn't want to be looking over his shoulder the entire time wondering when Nico will trade him. And anlso doesn't trust the training staff. And then that will force dumont to fire Nico. One can dream.
