I have to say I really appreciate your knowledge and understanding of the NBA. You need to get a job at ESPN or call into 97.5 here in town

Thanks, I appreciate it. I've had a job offer in the NBA and used to work for a major media outlet. Working on sports is fun, but unless you are a top guy, you get paid poorly and work awful hours. Not what I want as a dad.

I don't think I have the statistical or basketball background to do the things I would actually want to do.

Serious question, who's the better coach: Doc Rivers, Mark Jackson, or Vinny Del Negro?

https://nbadraft.theringer.com/mock-draft

Updated Mock from the Ringer has us taking Sorber over Coward.

Their Big Board has Coward 9th and Bryant 10th with Sorber 11th.

Maybe more likely a big that we want falls to us. Don't know what Atlanta will do with 13. Could still draft a beringer I suppose.

Damn it Atlanta trying to make damn sure their picks that the Spurs own aren't any good

Kristaps has played more than 60 games all of once in the last 8 years or something?

Not sad we missed out on that

Yep.

Avg 45games/season for last 8 years. One season with more than 57 games.

Jalen Johnson has played 92 games over their last two seasons.

I think the Hawks depth chart is kind of a mess. Starting five is good... if healthy.

C: Kristaps
PF: Jalen Johnson
SF: Zaccy Racecar
SG: Dyson Daniels
PG: Trae Young

Bench:

C: Okongwu
PF: Mouhamed Gueye (6p4r in 16mpg .421/.259 shooting)
PF: Dominic Barlow (4p2r in 11mpg)
SF: No One
SG: Kobe Bufkin: played 27 games in 2 seasons, 5p2r2a on .374/.220 shooting
PG: Vit Krejci 7p3r3a in 20mpg

That's their entire roster. They have two massively injury prone starters and only one bench player that is NBA level. Maybe Vit can develop, but he has also been very injury prone and has a bad back.

If healthy, their top 6 is pretty good, especially in the East. But their shooting is bad, their rebounding will be bad.

They are at 157.2M with 11 players including the 13th pick. That's 30M in space under the 177M luxury tax that they won't pay for 4 players to fill out that roster, not including the 13th pick. LaVert would have to stay pretty cheap to use the whole MLE.

What stinks about this trade is Atlanta is more likely to take Cedric Coward or Carter Bryant 1 spot above us.

What in the world are the Nets going to do tomorrow. 5 first round picks. wow lol.

Gonna try to get all the way up to 3?

I'm not sure anyone wants too many picks, though. If Bryant/Coward were gone, I would trade 14 for 19/22 or something.

Probably hoping teams do what Minnesota did last year and give a pick+swap to get into the draft.

I almost think they are better off using all of them to see if they hit on someone. They are going to lose a lot of leverage with those late picks just by having so many.

I bet Brooklyn tries to move up. I'm looking at 3 or 5 as possibilities.

They may be forced to flip him a second time.

How about:

Vassell to Portland
Jrue to Dallas
PJ Washington + Daniel Gafford to SA

Trade two of them and draft four kids.

My final Big Board for the Spurs at 14:

1. Cedric Coward. I think he is more ready than Bryant and that gives him the nod. Ready to be our 2nd or 3rd defender (after Castle/Sochan) and to shoot and rebound now.
2. Carter Bryant. May have the bigger upside, but will need some years of development to reach it.
3. Thomas Sorber. I think he will be the best big man in the draft.
4. Noa Essengue. He's a project, but I think he has a ridiculous upside. If he or Sochan doesn't learn to shoot, not sure how that fit will be long term.

If they aren't there, trade down to maybe 19/22 with Brooklyn.

1. Rasheer Fleming. He's got the size and motor. Will he have the BBIQ?
2. Liam McNeeley. I still believe in his shot, despite the second half of his season.
3. Danny Wolf. I don't really like his fit with Wemby, but he is an interesting player. Don't think he will be a rim protector.
4. Maxine Raynaud. Also don't really like his fit and not sure he will be a rim protector. But he is smart and Wemby's buddy and has a lot of talent.
5. Joan Beringer. He will probably be a major project, so hoping for the best. Also he will be way gone by now.

38th pick:
1. Ryan Kalkbrenner. Would be great bodying up against some of the big guys like Edey, Clingan, and Jokic.
2. Drake Powell. Don't care if he isn't a position of need. Elite athlete D&3.
3. Bogoljub Markovic. Tall, thin shooting PF. 6'11 213lb shot 55/39 this year. Basically Serbian Durant.
4. Niederhauser. Big Swiss center with surprising athleticism.
5. Noah Penda.
6. Adou Thiero
7. Rocco Z.

Givony said that the Spurs were in love with Harper even before the nba lottery and never entertained any trade for him.

Have you considered Nique Clifford at all? Older but could be a good 3 and D guy.

Yeah, I just don't like him as much as Fleming or McNeeley. I think he is a bench guy and has a limited ceiling. Maybe he could turn into a Josh Hart guy, but he is a little shorter than Castle and about 15lbs lighter. He plays bigger than he is like Hart, but that was a CSU. How will that translate to the NBA?

I mostly prioritized ready now over developmental, which is why Raynaud/Wolf over Beringer and Coward over Bryant and Essengue.

One more shout-out to Guitar "chicken noodle" Soup for always providing the intel.

I can't stand college basketball so I'm out of my depth leading up to the draft. I don't know hardly any of these guys, so I follow along here and watch YouTube clips of the guys y'all discuss.

Makes me cringe just thinking about DeMar on the Spurs. Sad times.
