this is kind of what you're saying, but IMO it's mostly about the opportunity cost of playing him in LF vs 2B.txags92 said:RED AG 98 said:
I guess mostly because I think he's worse at LF than at 2B.
Statistically at least, you are wrong. And he has fewer opportunities to hurt us at LF than at 2B. It is going to get interesting when Yordan gets back to see where the two of them end up in the lineup. It is easier when facing lefties because you won't want Sanchez in the lineup for that, but it would seem we have one extra player for the RHP lineup unless Cam slides over and plays some CF.
Someone more well-versed with the stats will have to chime in to paint the full picture, but the broad strokes of it that he's not a good hitting LF, but he is still a good hitting second baseman and I don't think the defense either position matters nearly as much as the offense.
Everyone is focusing so much on his defensive capabilities, but his offense and his replacement's offense are going to be much more important to the result of the W/L in the long run. So its really about whether the lineup is more improved by the guy who replaces him in left vs. second base.
Not that these are necessarily going to be the guys every time but in general, the question is are we better with:
Jose at second and Sanchez in LF, or
Jose in left and Dubon at 2B?
My gut says Jose at second. Stats guys please confirm or deny.
