I guess mostly because I think he's worse at LF than at 2B.

Statistically at least, you are wrong. And he has fewer opportunities to hurt us at LF than at 2B. It is going to get interesting when Yordan gets back to see where the two of them end up in the lineup. It is easier when facing lefties because you won't want Sanchez in the lineup for that, but it would seem we have one extra player for the RHP lineup unless Cam slides over and plays some CF.
this is kind of what you're saying, but IMO it's mostly about the opportunity cost of playing him in LF vs 2B.

Someone more well-versed with the stats will have to chime in to paint the full picture, but the broad strokes of it that he's not a good hitting LF, but he is still a good hitting second baseman and I don't think the defense either position matters nearly as much as the offense.

Everyone is focusing so much on his defensive capabilities, but his offense and his replacement's offense are going to be much more important to the result of the W/L in the long run. So its really about whether the lineup is more improved by the guy who replaces him in left vs. second base.

Not that these are necessarily going to be the guys every time but in general, the question is are we better with:

Jose at second and Sanchez in LF, or
Jose in left and Dubon at 2B?

My gut says Jose at second. Stats guys please confirm or deny.

Do whatever we can to get him to 3k asap.

I don't think the focus on overhauling the infield defense over the offseason was done on the assumption that it doesn't have a meaningful impact in the aggregate on W/L.

Josie is gonna end up getting burned on his chase to 3k

Between the COVID year and the anticipated work stoppage in 2027 he's gonna miss out on a lot of hits.

I was making that same argument previously that the combined offense/defense of whoever you replace him with at 2B has to be worth more than whatever you lose offense/defense-wise by taking away whoever was playing LF. The strategy the Astros claimed to be after was that with so many ground ball pitchers, the defense in the infield was more important. Like I said before, with Yordan out, it is easy to just DH Altuve more and only play him in LF when we face lefties and you want to sit Sanchez. When Yordan comes back though, you have to decide if the defensive dropoff of playing Altuve at 2B is worth what you gain having Yordan, Altuve, and Sanchez in the game together. If you can move Cam to CF and have Sanchez play RF, then you can keep Dubon at 2B, and have Altuve and Yordan take turns at LF/DH.

Anybody got a betting line on Correa to homer in his first game back?

It is shaping up to be a fascinating offseason. In addition to Framber's free agency and how we react there, you now have the potential IF logjam with good odds that a big name player will get moved.

You are also crystalizing harder around a 2-3 window to chase rings before a rebuild.

Do we offer Framber the biggest pitching contract in franchise history? Do we instead offer the same to Dylan Cease?

Between the rest of this season and the offseason, baseball should not be dull anytime soon in the H.

I don't get why they paid so much for a rental #3. It makes sense why so few starters were moved with the prices teams were asking.

This type of financial mismanagement makes me appreciate how Dana and Crane negotiate deals without breaking the bank. Rangerettes appear desperate on overpaying for a rental.

if Yordan returns and Sanchez rakes...

there will be a little pressure on Jake to pick up where he left off at the plate (once he returns)

even more so if Cam resurges

Hey guys - something cool going on right now.

My nephew's little league all-star team is in the regional tournament for the chance to go to Williamsport. They are representing Texas East. Their little league is Lamar.

Today is their first game, and they are actually playing right now.

My nephew is currently on the mound pitching.

They are showing these games in ESPN+

As a Lamar Little League veteran, congrats. Lamar has had a lot of great teams over the years.

I would never bet against Altuve on not reaching 3000 hits. Wouldn't be surprised if he plays past age 40 in order to reach it if he has to.

Yeah I'm not saying he won't get it but it won't be as easy as it could be if he didn't lose those big chunks of time.

If we get a return to form from Yordan, a raking Sanchez, and Cam and Jake hitting like they did for the first half of the season, it will be an embarrassment of riches. Especially if Pena comes back raking as well and Diaz and Walker are finally starting to hit.

But has he cleared medical yet? Trade isn't final and he can't play until that happens, correct?

I also think as he gets older he will most likely be the dh more often and not play in the field to help him achieve the hit goal.

Dr. Nick has indeed completed a thorough medical examination concluding that Correa does indeed have two arms and two legs that seem to most likely be attached to his torso.

Should be DHing him extra right now

Just to help him build some rest until Yordan comes back

We will have to wait a few weeks for follow on imaging to reveal he also has a head too.

Here is one way to look at it. When calculating WAR, there are positional adjustments. It's based on historical data and decides which position is more difficult. If you play a tough position, you get a boost; easier position, you lose some points.

I think this changes over time, but roughtly here is how each position is graded.

  • Catcher: +12.5 runs per 1,350 innings (a full season)
  • Shortstop: +7.5 runs
  • Second Base: +2.5 runs
  • Third Base: +2.5 runs
  • Center Field: +2.5 runs
  • Left Field: -7.5 runs
  • Right Field: -7.5 runs
  • First Base: -12.5 runs
  • Designated Hitter: -17.5 runs
  • 2B > LF by a significant margin.

I never have understood AJ Preller's thought process as a general manager. He trades away his entire farm system (once again) to make a big splash in order to make the postseason and get bounced early. But wants top prospects in return to rebuild the organization just to do it all over again the following year.

When does ownership start to question the reckless moves? I bet he would love to have MacKenzie Gore and James Wood right now who are both cheap and productive big leaguers.
