Astros Bingo Update 8-3-25
A lot of people's bingo cards continue to go south as a lot of teams are going all over the place and injuries mount up.
HEADED FOR A B+
The good guys are down to a 90-72 pace. We've been above 90 for a couple of months, so a win today would be swell.
CAN'T BELIEVE I'M SAYING THIS
Christian Walker, dare I say, is hot. He's up to season-high paces of 22 HR and 85 RBI. He's got a real shot at 25 and 90, quite unbelievably.
THAT'S A SHAME
King Tuck has cooled off quite a bit from his torrid start He hit 1 HR in July and hasn't had one in August so far. That's 17 HR in April-June, and only 1 since. He hit .218 for July with a .295 slugging percentage. Jose Abreu doesn't see a problem His down to a 27 HR pace (square is 25). That's a shame.
GETTING HOT IN SACRAMENTO
The A's have played much better of late and are on pace for 70 wins, their square is 75.
SOUTH SIDE SIZZLE
The White Sox went 12-13 in July. This is a team that went 5-21 in April. It was their best month since June '23 when they went 13-13. Long story short, they have a legit shot to NOT lose 100 games a year after losing 121. Right now their pace is 61-101. That's throwing off their 115 loss square and the "Dodgers double up the White Sox" square.
THAT'S A SHAME, WEST COAST EDITION
Speaking of the Dodgers, since the Astros swept them, they've been almost as bad as the Astros. They are on pace to go 93-69 with their $220 million payroll which will pay out $3.7 trillion in 2060. They went 10-14 in July. 93 wins would be their lowest win total outside of COVID since 2018. That said, other than COVID they've won at least 91 wins every year since 2013.
HIT MAN
Jose Altuve had #2,347 yesterday. His next stop is Orlando Cepeda at 2,351. He's about 30 behind Freddie Freeman for the active lead. they're the same age, but Freeman debuted a year earlier and has about 650 extra plate appearances. Jose has only shaved 6 hits off Freeman's lead in 2025, Freeman raced by him by having 199 hits in 2022 and 211 in 2023. Jose missing 72 games hurt in '23 really hurt that lead as well.
Jose is on pace for about 53 more hits this year, that would get him up to exactly 2,400. That would get him to 127th. He needs to get to 2,514 to reach the top 100.
