Why though... Just have the surgery and be ready next year

Respect the toughness and drive to be out there helping the team.

That said, I really hope this is an educated decision and not one that will bite him in the ass.

Did the second opinion state that it could be healed without surgery?

Isaac Paredes received a PRP injection on his right hamstring and is going to rehab in an attempt to return this season, Astros GM Dana Brown said. Surgery was on the table for Paredes, Brown said, but Paredes chose to rehab the injury instead.

I think Paredes balked at it once he realized they meant to do the surgery on one of the clubhouse tables.

I cannot think of a single time where the "rest, rehab, and hope for the best" ever worked when a surgery recommendation was on the table. It seems like 100% of the time (only slight, if any, exaggeration), it just delays the inevitable surgery and leads to more missed time.

It drives me nuts.

It sounds like Paredes is trying to heal without surgery with the PRP injection. It seems to be a conservative approach to see if his body bounces back. I'm sure if it doesn't respond as he'd like by the end of the season, he will get the surgery.

If he ends up getting the surgery at the beginning of October, he'd be out until April. Then, he'd rehab for a month or six weeks -- so he'd likely be back mid-May next season.

I have no issues with the conservative approach if there's a possibility he responds this year.

It also says Paredes opted for it -- his choice. If you were in his position, would you immediately want to try surgery if there was a possibility that it could heal from this injection and rehab?

Depends on how high the possibility of coming back is. He is already guaranteed to get paid. Most of us would be making that decision with the knowledge that we need to get back to work as quick as possible.

Tendons do not have good blood flow and take a long time to heal. Surgery is a quicker option and typically stronger than healing on its own. As with anything that comes from the team, there could be more going on than what they are saying. Someone mentioned career changing injury in a post before, not sure where that came from, but if that is the case, I could see why he may not want surgery.

This article reads to me that either which way he will not be back this year.

My only problem with it is what happens next July when he pulls it again because it never healed correctly in the first place? Then you've lost him for even more time.

I agree that it is his choice, but I would argue the conservative approach is to get it fixed now.
I love Texas Aggie sports, but I love Texas A&M more.

I know nothing of these injections that he's doing but I wonder how the rest and rehab route compares with the surgery route as far as reaggravating it.

But I also have to think maybe the big issue here is that the players are given too much freedom to dictate what they do and how they rehab. The medical staff and give all the medical advise they want but if the player is not on the same page I can see that ending a big issue.

considering they drove the baseball pretty well, I'd say that's encouraging

both Altuve and Pena's EV was higher than the last line out to RF from Miami

I would love for someone smarter than me to explain how we can still be in 1P when 4 games out of every 6 we trot out Alexander/Gusto/Walter/Gordon/Blubaugh.

How those pitchers and our hitters have managed this is a massive mystery.

They are still outs. No moral victories in baseball. Until they start hitting them where they ain't it is the same result.

Yes. But we run like 2nd least. So it's a pillow fight between our runners and their throwers.

We need some Jedi as coaches. Teach our guys the mind trick so we can move the defenders to the wrong spot before they swing.

feels like the whole shift ban was overblown. Analytics still do their work, especially with outfielder positioning. Taking away XBH is (usually) way more important than taking away singles hit the other way.
